There is a service bulletin on the 08 Sorrentos about it. It's indicating an issue with your electronic stability control which is tied into your ABS. First be sure someone hasn't accidentally turned it off (if equipped with a button, most likely bottom side of dash under steering wheel or on/near gearshift), and if that's not the issue take it to a mechanic/dealership.

I know t sounds obvious but check the fuses. Make sure the power feed wire has not dislodged from the compressor clutch. the is also a relay that may have died, any compitent mechanic that can look at this will analyze the fault quickly. Lastly be sure that none of the air con lines have split or been damaged and lost its gas. Trying to help without seeing, good luck.

We also have a 2008 Kia Sorento. We bought it in December 2007 and it has 12K miles on it. We've been having the same problem for about 2 months. In our case the check engine light comes on along with the esc off light however in our case the car then immediately loses power! We've had it to the dealer 4 times as it continues to occur even after they've claimed to fix it. The loss of power poses a serious safety hazard.
SOURCE: My 2006 kia serento emissions light came on how do
There is obviously a problem, shutting off light will not cure problem.Emission light has a bunch of sensores that monitor engine performance and tell computer to turn on light. You need to have codes read to determine whats going on.
SOURCE: I change de battery in
What has happened is the computer for the abs has seen a loos of power to the module and has stored a code. try driving around for a few days and light should go out but if it doesnt then you will need to go to a shop and have the codes cleared. good day.
SOURCE: 2008 saturn aura xe service esc comes on
My first suggestion to try for this car is to disconnect the battery, take and pull the access panel on the fuse box on the passenger side of the vehicle. Buy a pack of dilectric grease at autozone or another part store the small packets (usualy 1.27 or something) then unbolt the ground wires which are located in the fuse access towards front put grease on it and tighten down bolts again. Making sure they go completly flush on my car there was a burr in the middle of the threads and this fixed my issues. I was having random service esc, and airbag light on and various other gremlins at diffreent times. It Fixed mine it's worth a try.
