Laurie,
If you need to keep adding water/antifreeze your car either has a leak -or there's maybe a problem with the head gasket.

Check your oil .. on the engine oil dipstick is there a creamy grey sludge? If so, that's a problem with the head gasket ..

Give a mobile mechanic a call. They're usually quite good. Don't drive a car that overheats or you will cause expensive damage.

SOURCE: 92 Toyota Camry, antifreeze leaking no leak found

have you had the undercarriage inspected for white stains from coolant, rust stains if your system is corroded? How many miles? has the water pump ever been replaced, that would be my guess, water pumps leak while the eng is running and the hot engine evaporates the coolant, so in many cases none on the ground. Also have the system pressure tested by a shop and put on a rack to check for signs of leaking under the car.

Testimonial: "Thank you for your answer. I have not changed the water pump since I bought the car 5 yrs ago. I will check that."

SOURCE: overheating 2003 dodge durango. What could be the problem??

When engine running, ensure no engine combustion gas bubbles in coolant resevoir (if so, the head gasket is blown).

Check cooling fans are operating ok (when required when car warms up), if not check
1) fuse,
2) relay operation,
3) heat sensor switch.

Replace thermostat.
When re-filling cooling system, bleed off any airlock as necessary.

Check for collapsing (soft) coolant hose on suction side of waterpump when engine revs above idle.

That is really quick, like you are getting no water flow at all. Make sure that a radiator hose is not collapsing enough to stop the flow. If possible on that model, take off the radiator cap and shine a light to see if the water passages in the radiator are clogged up with rust or sediment. If this started after the new thermostat was installed, make sure it was not put in backwards.

I have a 07 camry, its been overheating has water antifreeze in it, im alone and scared to drive it , it overheats when air is on and its not blowing cool air anymore, help please?

On warm or hot day with engine running have someone turn on a/c while you are looking under the hood, you should hear the radiator and condenser coil cooling fans come on if you do not hear them take to shop may just be bad control switch or fan bad.

My 1997 camry overheated. We flushed the radiator, but noticed cracks in the reservoir. Will this be causing the issue, and will repair / repalcement stop the overheating?

The overflow tank won't cause it to overheat. If you have added radiator stop leak just replace the radiator is stopped up.

Coolant boiling in resevoir.

It can be faulty coolant temperature sensor. Its not sensing exact coolant heat temperature so its overheating then required level.

-----------

Get the coolant pressure tested, its definitely leaking coolant. You will need to get the coolant running line.

Pressure test will help you to know from where exactly coolant/refrigerant is getting leaked.

Our 2000 Camry 4 cylinder just overheated, all fluids seem to be fine what else could it be?

Could be a bad thermostat if it stays closed it will overheat quickly.A bad cooling fan will overheat the car at idle but not while driving.A bad radiator act the same as the thermostat may be better at higher speeds.A water pump will usually make noise.Bug parts or debris clogging the radiator will be self evident.Air in the cooling system will usually make the overheat come and go. A bad coolant sensor can tell you the car has overheated when it actually has not. Just some things to look at.

I have replaced my radiator as well as my thermostat on my 2003 for taurus in the past 6 weeks and it still overheats. I need to figure this out. I just spent 1200 dollars fixing the car overall, and this...

Overheating can be caused by:
  • Cracked cylinder head or damaged head gasket: a common problem if the engine overheated and cold water was added. You can check by carefully removing the radiator cap while the engine is cold and not ruunig, start the engine and if the water in the radiator as seen in the radiator cap hole 'bubbles' violently or you see milky/oily floaters, then this is most likely the issue - water continuously blowing out of the exhaust, after the engine has warmed up of course, is also a sign.
  • Engine timing can also cause overheating: is the engine runnig smoothly
  • Lean fuel mixture can also cause overheating: does the engine detonate?
Hope those tips can help! let me know how you go.

My car keeps overheating..I changed the thermostat but the gauge is still all the way to hot..could it be the water pump?

Probly not. Unless the pump is run by it's own belt which broke. Usually , a pump is good till it starts leaking all over the place.
Please explain overheating problem more. Is it while you are driving , or when you are stoped in trafic. Does it heat up and overheat very quickly after you start the car. Is it really overheating , or is your guage just showing overheat.

Car Won't Start

More then likely when you replaced the water pump and starter you might have installed the starter wrong or it's defective if it used to start before the repairs u did but now wont. Also, Why did your car overheat in the first place? might not be a problem with your water pump but perhaps a bad headgasket. Might wanna get that checked.
