My 2003 Ford Escape had a bad crank shaft sensor which, would cause it to stall out, mainly when the engine was hot. It often would not start after I turned off after a long drive. Once the engine was cool it would re-start. The replacement sensor was a bit differennt then the original. The original appeared to be mostly plastic, while the new one was metal. Ford must have know they had a problem part.
I'm trying to put this nicely. Give it time the alternator will go out soon. At least that's what happened to my friends 2005 Ford Focus. Be prepared. Avoid trips far from home and friends or take the alternator off or take the whole car to a shop that specializes in alternators and starters. Ask for an estimate and know how much a replacement from the parts store will cost before you go.
You say it's overheating, more info needed such as: Is the engine temp gauge showing that it's overheating? Is it actually 'boiling over' and losing coolant? If it's running hot, but not losing coolant, check to see it the cooling fan is operating when the engine temp rises. You may have a bad cooling fan switch that is not signaling the fan to go on to lower the engine temp. It could be a stuck (closed) thermostat that is preventing proper circulation of coolant after the car reaches operating temp.

It is a 133mm rectifier with a motorcraft, The serpentine belt is better removed from the bottom. Also keep a bucket on hand to recover the oil from the transmission.
