I recently used 87 grade gas in my 2001 Infiniti I30 and its putting like a lawn mower. Besides the fact of it being a coil pack issue is 93 grade better to use? I had no problems out of 89 or 93

Hey LeDonta,
The octane rating of the gasoline has nothing to do with the "quality" of the gasoline.. quality is purity, quantity of bad "fillers", quantity of good "fillers", and cleanliness of the transportation tanker and the stations tanks in the ground.
the octane rating is a rating of how fast the gas burns in the combustion cycle... the higher the octane rating the slower the gas burns.. and the lower the octane, the faster it burns.. The compression ratio and ignition timing are the main factors in determining what octane an engine requires. The higher the compression ratio and thus, the more advanced the ignition timing, the higher the octane required. Racing engines (as a rule) require a higher octane...
USE WHAT YOUR OWNERS MANUAL SAYS TO USE!!!.. if it says 87,, use it, .. using 93 is a waste of money!!

SOURCE: driver's visor 3 buttons what for and how do i use it

Those buttons are for you to be able to program your garage door opener so that you don't need to have to original clipped to your visor all the time. The procedure is this: 1) put the key in ignition in postition 2 (car not running)

2) hold down both homelink buttons on the outsides of the homelink transmitter (to reset any existing codes) you might have to do it for 20-30 seconds. Red light on homelink will flash rapidly then let go.
 3) Now, with the garage remote in one hand and hold the button on the homelink you want to program (keep holding homelink until it pulses, not a rapid flash, takes about 20 sec.) While it is pulsing, hold down the garage opener as close to the homeling button as possible while depressing door opener button also.

Shortly after doing this you will see the homelink start to flash rapidly (this means it is learning the code).

-  let go of both buttons once it is flashing rapidly and

4) go to motor of door opener and hit the learn button (a light should turn on)

5)return to the car a press the homelink button you programmed once, twice, or maybe up to three times until you see garage door open/close.

You may need to have someone help you with this procedure.

SOURCE: 89 oldsmobile 98 won't start

If you suspect its a fuel problem best to do a fuel pressure test, you can rent a tester at auto zone and do it yourself. They also can show you how to use it and what pressure it should be. Also if you turn the key to on position you should hear a hum from the gas tank and then a click that is the pump running and the click is the relay, if you don't then the pump isent running, also chk. the fuse and relay, it could be as simple as a blowen fuse or a bad relay.

SOURCE: Ford E-350 2001 V-10 gas.

Check your fuel vapor recovery system, your van has unusual set up, and the effect is RAW fuel gets purged, rather than vapor.
The dead giveaway test is does the issue happen on light acceleration? Does it stop if you let off the throttle? Can you accelerate harder and "get past" the issue?

1999 Infinity. Where is the fuse that supplies backup/memory power to the E.C.M. on it.

Question edited for clarity and toss in some CAPS.

There is nothing that backs up memory. When you disconnect the battery, all memory is lost, which is why it is important not to do it!

You don't tell us the model? Is it a secret? All questions need 'year make model' as the FIRST 3 words.

If your have a 1999 Infinity I30, the ECM Fuse is Fuse 58.

Horrible Random misfire in car

This is common issue with Infiniti I30 1999-2001.

When the coil packs fail they burn up components/parts on the engine computer ECU. If the problem gets worse, you will need to replace the ECU or have it rebuilt.

Is your check engine light on?
You might also get code P0505
Technical bulletin also recommends to replace
The Idle Air Control Valve MUST be replaced prior to re-installation of the ECM, or immediate damage to the computer will occur again.

Common Failures:
  • No Start, Hard Start, Engine Stalls
  • Rough Idle, High Idle, or Idle Up and Down
  • Misfire to one or more cylinders
  • No signal to the ignition coils
  • Engine Trouble Codes For Idle Control Valve (IACV)
  • No Communication With Computer
  • Replacing IAC Does Not Fix The Problem

How do I find and replace spark plugs, check wires on an I30 2001

That vehicle does not have plug wires. It uses Ignition Coils instead. On top of each valve cover, there should be three square black coil packs. They will have two screws or bolts holding them in, and a couple of wires coming out of each one. You should be able to unsnap the clips holding the wiring to each coil, Remove the bolts and lift the coil up from atop the spark plug. I would absolutely recommend Factory plugs, or NGK plugs for that vehicle. Infiniti cars will not run worth a **** with anything else in them. You will think you are saving money by putting some Bosch Double Platinum or some **** like that, until you start pulling your hair out trying to figure out why it won't run. Trust Me. Save yourself a bunch of headaches and pay a little more for factory plugs. Just try not to get the coils crossed up, they are two different part numbers. I would suggest doing the job one cylinder at a time.

Ideal gasoline

87 octane is ideal for your accent.

It's a little commuter car. It's designed to save you money.
Anything over 87 is just a waste of money, UNLESS your engine is knocking at 87. Then you should step up to the next highest grade.
89 is a made up octane. It's just a mix of the lowest grade and the highest grade. I used to work at a mobil gas station for a year, and the only grades i knew wer 87 and 93, but 89 was an available option. it's just a way for oil companies to benefit off of ignorance.
91 and 93 is for high performance engines, turbo-induction, superchargers, that sort of stuff.
you should be fine sticking with the 87 though, but move up to "89 octane" or 91/93 if your engine knocks a lot.
hope this helps.

Right gas

Regular unleaded (87 octane) is the correct grade.
