Hi guys, I came back from a 5 week holiday and found my car battery flat. After I jump started it the alarm just kept going off. That's the first time something like this happened and I wasn't even aware that my car (Mazda Protege 323 2003) had an alarm installed). It turned out that the battery had to be replaced. I was hoping the alarm would stop after I install a new battery, but that didn't happen. I located a little speaker under the hood and unplugged a wire to it. That stopped the alarm going off but not the emergency lights. Any ideas how I can fix the problem with the emergency lights? Your help would be much appreciated. Cheers!

SOURCE: 1993 Saturn SL2 Electrical Short?

Hello there ThreeD, Johnny

I wonder if we had the same dealership? If you are still having the start up problem, I have several solutions.

To Disable the Starter Kill:
( Tools: flashlight, wire stripper, Jumper wire w/alligator clips)

  • The most common intersect point is at the base of the steering column. Slide the seat back, tilt the wheel up and contort your way down there.
  • You should find two wires, usually the same color that look like an afterthought. One comes from up the column, the other, from the firewall. Where they go in the same direction, they are going to the alarm module.
  • The alarm module is usually under the center console. You don't need to dig it out, only confirm the two wires go to the module.
  • When confirmed, choose a spot where the wires are close together and strip about 1/8 inch of insulation from each.
  • To kill the Starter Kill: Use the alligator clip wire to connect the two wires.
  • Now try to start the engine.
What you have done:
  • When engaged, the starter kill interrupts the power going to the solenoid.
  • When disengaged, it allows power to the solenoid.
  • The relay the accomplishes this is sometimes not up to the task, resulting in scorched contacts.
  • Bottom line, the interrupt state never ends.
  • The jumper you attached takes the place of the damaged relay to the extent of allowing power to the solenoid
This is a quick inexpensive way to either fix the starting problem or rule out the starter kill as the weak link in the circuit.

Let me know the results. If necessary we will take it to the next level.hanks for using FixYa

you need to go to an alarm installer and have them disarm the alarm. If you try to disarm yourself, you could possibly damage computer configurations.

SOURCE: timing belt on 1996 mazda protege slips during startup

Hello, this to me sounds like your fan belt slipping (not timing belt). To adjust the fan belt you need to undo your bolt on the alternator, pull it tight onto the fan belt and while holding it tight do the bolt back up tightly. this will stop yoour fan belt from slipping. I hope this helps.

Aftermarket Alarms are the WORST... GM are among them too... Did you cross the Wires when you jumped started it? Did you put both Cables on the Battery or did you Ground the Car with one of them and the Positive on the Battery?
If you jump started it wrong, you could have caused a problem with your ECU (Engine Control Unit), PCM (Powertrain Control Module), or BCM (Body Control Module) which if this is a Dodge, it probably the problem.

If this is a After Market System, have it Professionally Removed.

2004 chrysler pacifica no power even after jump

check for a bad connection like a bad ground at the battery, make sure both terminals are tight at the battery, the starter and the ground at the engine. the shop that installed the EGR should have erased the codes, after 50 to 100 miles you would be able to go through emissions.

Mitsubishi Magna GLX 1993 jumpstarting sets off alarm!

Is the alarm factory fitted, cheap, or a top of the range.
the factory alarm you can pull the cable of the horn untill you get the car started.
there are some alarms that go off when there is a voltage change, and some will keep going for a couple of minutes if the battery is dead flat untill there is power to equilze the power abit,
and some alarms have a key over ride in the siren.
if its a cheap alarm take the battery of and charge it,(the alarm will cut out as soon as the battery is disconnected.
~dont jump start from a dead flat battery, as it can cause a lot more problems with the electrics, leave another car running with the jump leads on for at least 5 min first.~

Disconnect your battery (+ ) terminal for a minute or so, then reconnect. I've had where my vehicle came back from Florida, the night before, to the nice cold winter in Ontario Canada, and I had to disconnect battery to basically re-program all the sensors etc, to recognize difference in temperatures. After I did that, it started up fine, no more problems. I don't suspect your vehicle was exposed to any big difference in outside temperatures, but it costs nothing to try this, and I've seen stranger things happen.
