First, you have to know what a strike is. Picture a flat rock laying on the level ground. Tilt it. The strike is the direction of the rock related to the level ground. The small angle between the rock and the level ground is called the dip.

Now, rocks are often in layers. When that layer is at a tilt to the horizontal plane, that is a strike. It is a tilt but it is underground in this image.

Now, go back up to the first description of strike, the rock tilted against the flat earth. If you had a mirror image of it on the other side, it would form a V. If earth were piled underneath the wings of that V, and each wing was hundred of feet high, you would be looking at a strike valley. The sides of such a valley are layers of rock tilted at an angle to the horizontal (flat) earth. Geologist describe the valley as being parallel to the strike.

Have key broken off in ignition switch of my 89 ramcharger. whats best way to remove or to replace ignition switch?

you can use a thin scroll saw blade, or jig saw blade and grind the back side off leaving a nice little hook at the end. use two of these to grip the valleys of the key left behind. You can use other items like exacto blades or a bobby pin, the idea is to get under one of those valleys on the key and lift it out. Good luck.

Just had the valley pan replaced. strangley the belt broke and was told the power steering pump's bolts were missing. Would a mechanic need to work near the power steering pump to replace the valley pan?

please explain what you mean by valley pan ,now heard of a dog kennel and pigs tails and trunk for the boot and hood for the bonnet but this is a new one on me ,these bolts can come loose and drop out if they were loosened up for anything and not re-tightened properly but this could have been done before you bought the car ,older models with V belts can and do work loose on their own ,hence a proper service fleet vehicle style to ensure everything is correct and not a dealer style service where its profit motivated by changing everything in sight except a proper inspection

The motor is pinging under load. Why?

Ahh. This is actually quite easy. On any computer controlled car, to controll timing under any circumstance, "knock" or "ping" must be able to be detected. This is done by a knock sensor.
Depending on the engine size, this unit will be on the very side of the engine block or on the V-6, in the valley under the intake manifold and in the valley between the cylinder heads.
