Make sure the fuel pump as the old one. And I have seen bad new fuel pumps that were no good out the box new. Start with fuel pressure. Back firing means timing is off a lot of the time of the fuel pressure is good

Thr water pump was replaced prior to the raditor hoses n fuel pump when the 97s get hot an the A/C code comes up on dash does ur heads always crack?

They could have just told u that to try and get ur money but if the car got hot it could have cracked the heads. I would guess a blowed head could make it not run as well

Sounds like a a timing issue - did you mess with the timing belt or move it?

  • Carissa Hankey

No I didnt the mechanics said that also but i dont get how it would jump time..before sometimes it would bog like it wasnt gettin gas or the catalytic converter clogged but i keep reading about this fuel pressure something

  • richie46 Aug 25, 2017

U said they replaced all sorts of parts including water pump. They may have disturbed the position of timing belt and that is critical for spark plug firing at correct time. If timing is off, engine runs for sh--, mileage is poor, backfiring occurs, no power, etc.

SOURCE: 1998 aurora

I have had this problem with my 98 aurora and have replaced all the same components. Temp gauge routinely shows 200 on highway (Fine) but in the city in stop and go will get to around 245. I installed a switch to manually turn on the cooling fans by connecting the ground to pin 86 in the relay for the fan(s). Otherwise the fans will not turn on to 245. This fix works but would like to know an actual solution.

SOURCE: 1994 Honda Civic LX\overheating within 2 mile drive

Remove and raise upper hose at thermostat end and remove lower rad hose.
Fill rad with a hose and watch for flow from bottom rad hose and/ or bottom rad hose connecton.......water should fall though rad easily.
Honda rads are cheap.....any restriction....replace rad.

Remove thermostat....fill thermostat housing with hose and watch for water flow at bottom rad hose.
Flush good.

Remove heater hoses.......flush back and forth until a good flow is present "With heater control set to hot" if no or poor flow....replace heater core.

Stop leak can plug everything.

Also.......not likely causing over heating....but ....at your mileage,if you do not know if the timing belt has been changed.....CHANGE IT NOW!
Water pump is optional at this mileage.

It's your air pump running, not your fuel pump. Probably have a small air leak in hoses to shocks.

Just bought a 1999 aurora with 4.0 liter v8, drove it 2 miles and was smoking from engine compartment smelled like antifreeze

There apparently is a coolant leak, could be the radiator, upper or lower radiator hoses, water pump, heater hoses or thermostat housing gasket.

Is a 99 buick park avenue fuel pump compitable with a 1997 oldsmobile aurora? there both a gm product

According to my parts guide, the fuel pump for your 97 Olds Aurora fits only that and the 97 Buick Riviera's and nothing else. The pump for a 99 Park avenue comes up as a different part number. Hope this helps!

I drive an oldsmobile aurora 98 and it keeps over heating. I have changed the radiator and the upper hose as well as the heating hose. now it seems like the lower hose is gone. it seems I keep changing...

Based on the description, either the problem is on the water pump, the radiator fan or the hoses. If you have replaced the hoses or noticed that the hoses are not brittle and clamps are ok, then you can eliminate it as one of the source of the problem. Inspect the radiator fan if it turns on when you remove the thermostat. The thermostat looks like a small plug that has wires coming out of it and is connected to one of the radiator hoses. If it does not turn on it could be a problem on the relay or the fan itself. You may swap the AC fan relay with the radiator fan. If it still does not turn on then it is a bad fan. If it turns on then, have the relay replaced. Other than that your water pump for the radiator needs replacing. It may not be circulating water correctly.

I have a 200 chevy 2500 pickup, and this morning while doing maintenance i saw that my radiater was clug-up with rust clunk i clean it , i took the hose that goes from the top of radiater to the top of the...

The rust that you saw may come from the engine, the metal parts of the radiator or the water pump itself. Removing the hoses for cleaning is fine as long as it is returned to their proper places. For the sources of the rust check first the radiator cap for corrosion, you may need to have it replaced as well. Check out the metal coils of the radiator if there is rust build up. To get to the water pump you will have to remove some serpentine belt and the timing belt to get to it. The work that will be used to get to it and replacing it is almost the same as in replacing a timing belt. Make sure to check the timing belt while at it to save time and labor. Whenever I replace my timing belt I also have the water pump checked and replaced if needed.

My girlfriend ran over a large rock and the belts popped and water spilled onto the gorund. Which belts do I need to replace.

If it has more than 1 belt . If your going to replace 1 you should go ahead and replace them all , you have to remove all the parts anyway so do them all while your there. As for the water on the ground , check the radiator for leaks & the bottom radiator hose.If the radiator & the hose are fine it could have been the water pump belt. Hope it didn't run hot.

97 olds overheating

Hi, if you have flushed the radiator and changed the thermostat, the only thing that can be causing this is a faulty water pump impeller. i recommend replacing the water pump in this case. make sure your cooling fans are operational as well and check the operational value of the temp sensors on board as well.
