You have to push in on the back of the seat as in the picture below. It really takes two people, one to push in and one to pull up on the head rest. http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/download/file.php?id=1748&mode=view

Not really, you just need to be carefull not to brake the plastic covers but you can get them separate than use a thin spanner and you should be able to do it without removing the seat.

SOURCE: how do you remove the armrest on the front seats?

The armrests have covers that can be removed. Locate the zipper on the arm rest. Once you unzip it pull it toward the back of the arm rest and this will expose the one bolt that hold the armrest on. You will need a large torx and rachet to get it off. Once you take out that bolt the armrest will come right off.

Bought a 2009 Chevy aveo for college student. It has a small flip down armrest that currently wobbles and flips down past "horizontal" stop point. How can I repair this? Thanks for the help!

Most all of these seat units have been assembled at the factory before the seat cover was installed on the seat.
Standard repair is to remove the seat from the car, then remove the cover and padding and you should find the plastic or the metal ( or both) framework & armrest mechanism is broken.
Repair parts will not be available from a dealer, so a salvage or junk yard may be your next trip.
Dealerships will sell you a whole new seat.
God bless your efforts.

How do i remove a front passenger side door panel on a 2010 jeep patriot

There should only be screws at armrest and behind door release lever..they will have small plastic covers that covers them ..You will have to remove window crank if it doesn't have electric windows which takes a special tool..The complete outer part of panel is just popped in with plastic pop locks..You can carefully pop it off by hand..You will see how simple they are attached..They also make a removal tool for these..It is possible for some to break however you can by a pack of them at a local parts store. If it is electric windows be very careful because you will have to disconnect wiring to the switches before removing complete panel...Top of panel is just slides under rubber window seal..

How do i take off the armrests from the bucket seats

  • On most vehicles the arm rest are attached the same way, here is something you can try...Put the armrest in the upright position. Look along the bottom and sides of the armrest where it connects to the body of the seat. There should be small circles like tabs if the armrest is made of plastic, and there should be a seam that you can look through if the arms are made of cloth.
  • Pop out the tab or peel back the fabric to reveal the holding mechanism. If the chair is screwed in then you'll need a screwdriver, and if there's a nut or a bolt then you're going to need a socket wrench.
  • Hold the armrest up and make sure it doesn't move. Unscrew or unbolt the arm from the bucket seat. Pull the arm outwards once the hardware is removed.

Need to remove door panel. How?

Door Panels - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

The many different design interiors make it impossible to list each fastener location. The trim panels that must be removed are held in place by screws and clips. These locations vary from model to model. After removal of all the fasteners that you are aware of, if the trim panel is still firmly attached, you probably missed a hidden fastener. If this happens, gently and carefully pry the area looking for the location that doesn't flex. The location that does flex is where you'll find the fastener(s) you missed. Screws and retainers are usually hidden. Handle trim, reflectors, light lenses and other plastic pieces usually cover the main retaining screws. Take great care with the plastic trim panels. Plastic trim panels are usually very hard plastic and extremely easy to crack. The following steps can be used to guide you through the removal and installation of the trim panels, but you may need to alter these steps to your specific needs.
    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    2. Pull the inside door handle to the open position, unfasten the screw and remove the handle escutcheon.
    3. If equipped with manual locks, remove door inside locking rod knob.
    4. If equipped with manual windows, insert a suitable window regulator handle removal tool behind the handle. Disengage the retainer, then remove the handle.
    5. If equipped with power windows and locks, use a small flat-bladed prytool to carefully pry the switch plate up, then detach the power component electrical connectors.
    6. If equipped, remove the screws inserted through door armrest and pull handle assembly into door inner panel or armrest hanger support bracket.
    7. Lift the seat belt trim panel up and remove the hidden retaining screws.
    8. Remove the outside side view mirror trim plate retaining screw. Lift the panel up to disengage the retaining clip, then remove the trim panel from the door.
    9. On styles with courtesy lamps located in the lower area of the trim panel, disconnect the wiring harness at the lamp assembly.
    10. If equipped, use a suitable tool to pry the reflector plate from the side of the door panel.Remove bottom trim cover retaining screws, then remove the lower trim cover.
    11. Remove any necessary electrical connector CPA clips, then unplug the electrical connectors.
    12. On styles with integral armrests, remove the screws inserted through the pull cup into the armrest hanger support.
    13. Unfasten the door trim panel retaining screws. The locations of the screws will vary depending upon the year of model of vehicle. The screws are usually hidden, so be sure to look carefully to make sure you don't miss any. After all of the trim panel retaining screws are removed, slide a suitable trim panel removal tool between the door panel and door perimeter to carefully disengage all of the trim panel retaining buttons. Make sure to position the tool close to the fastener, or the trim panel may be damaged.
    14. Carefully lift the trim panel away from the door, checking to be sure all of the retaining buttons and screws and electrical connectors are unfastened.

    To install:

Before installing the door trim panel, check that all trim retainers are securely installed to the panel and are not damaged. Replace damaged retainers as required.
    1. Connect electrical components where present.
    2. To install the door trim panel, pull door inside handle inward; then position the trim panel to the inner panel, inserting the door handle through the panel hole.
    3. Position the trim panel to the door inner panel so that the trim retainers are aligned with the attaching holes in the panel, and tap the retainers into the holes with a clean rubber mallet. Install all previously removed items.
    4. Install the remaining door panel components in the reverse order of removal.
    5. After installation, connect the negative battery cable, then check for proper attachment and operation of electric components, if so equipped.

Hope helps (remember rated and comment this).

If you look at the armrest side that is "away" from where it is attached to the seat, you will see a small circular cover. Using a small flat screwdriver, pry this cover off; it is held in by 2 small claws. When the cover is removed, it will expose the bolt that you need to remove to remove the armrest. Hint: tape the end of the scrwdriver so you do not deform the plastic cover or the part that the cover fits into. Quite an easy proceedure.
