CV boots are replaceable, but most times it's just as cheap to replace the complete axle.

1993 Toyota Corolla DX, 141,00 miles. Found out the CV boot on the driver's side is cracked, it was making a "grinding" noise and the mechanic found the crack by squirting grease in the boot....

You might be able to replace the boot only, but in all the years I have been working on cars ( close to 40) I have yet to see a boot repair that works. The only way to "fix" a bad boot is to replace it with a one piece boot and that means you have to remove the axle and dissasemble the CV joint. I just replace the whole CV axle.

Need to replace a cv boot on a 97 accord.

replace the whole axle, they arent that much money, and you have to take it out anyway just to spend a bunch of time putting the boot on a axle with wear on that joint anyhow. ;)

Replacing cv boot

The CV-boot has C-clips inside the boot they must be released befor the boot will come apart. It would be very hard to tell you how to do it on this page. You really need a repair manual on how to fix CV-joints.

How do I replace cv boot on a buick park ave

The boot you need to replace is call OUTER CV BOOT.

The quickest way to inspect is to drive it in low speed (UNDER 10 mph) tight left and right turns.

If you hear clicking sound then the CV shaft is bad.

It's also depending on how long the CV boot been crack.

===
If you decide to go ahead on the job then please observe safety and use jack stands to fully support the front end.

Remove wheel, cotter pin, retainer cap and larger axle nut.

Make alignments markings on the strut tower and steering mount so your front end will able to put back to alignment.

You will need an able body to do the following.

Remove the large lower strut bolts and swing the strut off the CV.

DO NOT ROCK THE CAR!!!

Clean off the outer CV.

Install boot, grease and the two bands.

Line up the strut and steering yoke marks

repack bearings,lock nut,cap,cotter pin,wheel.

Drive the car in low speed for 1 miles with tight turns.

Do a quick inspection to make sure the CV boot is sitting perfectly on the CV.

How often to replace cv boots/cv joints/axle?

If something off the road tore the boot, yes but if it has not been tore long and you don't hear any clicking noises around corners, you can just replace the boot.
