P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction OBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description Article by Dale Toalston ASE Certified Technician Transmission Control System TCS Malfunction What does that mean? Many vehicles have a control module for the automatic transmission called a transmission control module (TCM). The engine control module (ECM) communicates with the TCM to monitor the automatic transmission for faults. If the TCM detects a fault in the automatic transmission and sets a transmission related fault code, the ECM is informed of this also and sets a P0700 in the ECM memory. This illuminates the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to let the driver know there is a problem. If this code is present and the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is illuminated that basically means there is at least one transmission code set in the TCM's memory. P0700 is an informational code only. It doesn't point to a direct fault in the engine, only a general fault in the transmission. More diagnosis is necessary to identify what the transmission fault is. This requires a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission module. Symptoms Symptoms of a P0700 DTC may include: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination The transmission may exhibit drivability problems like slipping, etc. Causes More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind. The TCM detected the problem and set a code. P0700 means that a fault code is stored in the TCM. However this doesn't rule out the possibility of a failed PCM or TCM (unlikely). Possible Solutions For a P0700 the only real solution is to acquire a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission control module. Extracting this code from the TCM will be the first step in repairing the fault in the transmission. If the TCM compatible scan tool will not communicate with the Transmission Control Module then that is a good indication that there may be a fault with the TCM itself. How to fix diagnostic codes po700 and po730 ?

Symptoms of a P0700 DTC may include:
  • Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination
  • The transmission may exhibit drivability problems like slipping, etc
More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind. The TCM detected the problem and set a code. P0700/PO700 means that a fault code is stored in the TCM. However this doesn't rule out the possibility of a failed PCM or TCM (unlikely).
For a P0700/PO730 the only real solution is to acquire a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission control module. Extracting this code from the TCM will be the first step in repairing the fault in the transmission.
If the TCM compatible scan tool will not communicate with the Transmission Control Module then that is a good indication that there may be a fault with the TCM itself.

TROUBLE CODES 605 AND 700

Is this P0605 and P0700? If so read on.
P0605 - Control Module Fault
Possible causes- ECM/PCM Harness power supply circuit is open or shorted
- ECM/PCM Harness ground supply circuit is open or shorted
- ECM/PCM may be faulty
P0700 CHRYSLER - Transaxle Control System (TCM) Malfunction
Possible causes- Shorted or open circuit within transmission control module (TCM)
- Failure of transaxle control module
Tech notes Since the P0700 is just and informative code, check the TCM for more codes to resolve the problem

What is wrong here?

P0700 indicates that there are codes stored in the TCM. You need to scan the TCM for the actuall transmission trouble codes. This can only be done with a higher end scan tool to do this.

Error code 0700 aa1 aa2

Hi there:
The DTC P0700 is a Information Code The Transaxle Control Module (TCM) that monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. If any malfunction is detected, the TCM informs the PCM by sending a signal (P0700 code). P0700 means that a code has been set in the TCM.
This code is for information ONLY. If this code is present, check for transaxle codes. So basically, the P0700 code is telling you to check the TCM for a transaxle DTC. The TCM can not turn on the check engine light so it has the PCM do it, which can only be done with a diagnostic scanner. The self retreival method for chryslers with the ignition key will not pull up the specific transmission fault codes in the TCM.

Hope this helps.

Check engine light is on and I have a code po0700 what is that

P0700 indicates there is an issue with the transmission. You will need to scan the tcm for trouble codes. You can not do this with an OBDII code reader. You will need a high end multi function scan tool to do this.once you know the tcm codes post them and i'll be happy to help.

I have a chrysler 300m, it drives good, but every time i come to a stop, it jerks. i put it on a computer, code 0700 comes on (tcm). .where is it located? can i fixd it on my own?

Fault P0700 just means the PCM (Powertrain control module) has had a command from the TCM (Transmission control module) to trun on the Check engine light to alert you that a fault has occurred in the Transmission, the real problem code is stored in the TCM not the PCM, you must have the dealer test the TCM for the fault code to find out what is casing the TCM fault
