SOURCE: My Check Engine Light Is On

Who scanned it, the dealer? A pcm code doesn't necessarly mean it's is bad. You need a service manual and follow the flow chart. Without a top of the line professional scan tool and years of experience,I would just go to the dealer. If you replace it, you still have a lot of relean stratagies to put into it and only the dealer can flash your initial factory settings.

That is the normal recommendation for a 601. A used PCM would have to be reflashed to work right, so then you have to go to the dealer anyway. Another option is to buy a preflashed PCM from the parts store and install it yourself. They will flash it based on your VIN. This is not as good as getting a complete redo by the dealer, but it will fix the issue.
Last option is to do nothing. The software will revert to default settings, which will result in suboptimal operation. You can check your mileage to see if it's affecting that. It probably will pass any smog tests as long as it isn't setting other codes. It may start to have other symptoms, though. If you have more questions, please let us know.

SOURCE: code p 0601 2001 dodge caravan

This code is for your PCM. This is the computer in the car that controls engine functions. Are you having any drive ability issues? If not I would go to Autozone and have them erase the code. If it comes back on, I would take your car to the dealership because you will most likely need a new PCM.

The first thing you want to do is notice if there is a "check engine light" on the dash. If so then you will need to read the codes either at autozone advanced auto or we suggest a certified shop or mechanic. Once you have the codes lease post them here and I will give you all the info you need to solve your problem for free. These dodge diesel ECU ECM PCM engine computers are very common to fail also. If the ECU ECM PCM for this dodge diesel ends up being your problem we can offer you a replacement coded to your vehicle for a fraction of dealer cost. Please let us know how we can assist further. 888-672-4816 or 954-279-2041

Transmission problem maybe in limip mode on 96 Chevy pickup. Could it be a short or fuse and how do I reset ecu /pcm?

You'll need an odb or odb11 code reader - plug in normally under dash. This way u can get fault codes. Reset PCM is normally battery neg off for 30 secs to 5 mins. Normally clears codes - but if prob still exists fault code or engine check light should re-appear after first start of car or 2nd. Hope that helps a bit...

The next time you go by an auto parts store, stop in at the counter and ask them to read your check engine codes. They will print out a receipt with the actual codes and descriptions of what the codes mean.

The PCM is the main engine computer, if it had problems the engine would not run well if at all. Engine computers tend to be expensive as well. Not a part you want to swap out on a whim.

Please mark my answer helpful and feel free to post the actual trouble codes in the comments if you need more help. 2003-dodge-ram-hemi-5-7l-check-engine-l0u5xrrbjmm23votbgnhzwek-2-0.jpg

Is it possible that the diagnostic result from the dealership would be wrong regarding the PCM defect. Their recommendation is to replace the PCM. It was diagnosed P-0601 Intenal failure code. My car is...

Take the van to AutoZone or similar business to get a free scan of the computer and see if you get the same error code. You should be able to replace the PCM with one from a wrecking yard--they guarantee them usually for at least 30 days. Dodge dealers and auto parts houses sell rebuilt ones too, but it has been a number of years since I had to buy one. Wrecking yards usually sell for half of new price. Hope this helps!

Ck eng. light comes on after geting gas code reades Po601

P 0601 = Internal Controller Failure. PCM (Powertrain Control Module) Internal fault condition has been detected.
To clear the Code (and Engine Light) from the PCM use a OBD II Scan tool. If you do not have one, go to an auto parts store. They can hook one up for free. Clear the code using the Scan Tool. It is not recommended to disconnect the battery to clear the PCM Codes, as it will cause the engine to run rough.
If the Code/Light re-appears, there may be a problem with something else.
