Common problem with that motor is the intake gaskets fail. It could be that but in reality it sounds like head gaskets are gone

I have a 1998 cavalier. It has been sitting for a couple of months and not drove much. I have recently tryed to start it and i'm having trouble. it will start then imedetly dies then it just crank

Probably the best thing you can try is to replace the fuel filter and do a fuel sample at the same time. Use a glass jar to capture a little fuel and let it sit for a day to see if it separates. Put a lid on the jar to prevent evaporation.

Depending on your results, you can determine if the fuel is the problem.

Engine dies at random...Highway and idle.

do not think vacuum hose is teh issue. When ws last time you replaced fuel and air filter? Couls also be failing fuel pump, so need to check output pressure. If check engine light comes on may be in air polution control system. Need to pull code and see what circuit is causing the fault code. Sometimes an auto zone will read code for free.

Runs then dies think its heat related and electrical

I am having the same problem with my 1991ford taurus. If I drive it too long
it will for no reason die on me and then I have to let it sit for a while and then
I can get it started again but it you do not let it sit long enough you can only drive
alittle longer and it will die on you again. So then you have to sit a good 30minutes
or more and then I can usually make it home. If any one is having the same problem
I would really appreciate some it put. At this point I really can afford a new car right
now.

Thankyou

Cheryl
