Get you're catalytic converter checked it could be clogged or starting to fall appart from the inside... this would cause your described behaviour... second possibility: the signal receiver under the coil pack may have problems like water leaks or bad connections, alot of chevs seem to have this problem, the engins don't like water.

Since the most fuel is used at highway speeds, that is when a mostly clogged fuel filter will show up the most. But it can also be a stuck vacuum relief valve that is supposed to let air into the gas tank. Cap will "whoosh" when removed if that is problem. Carburetor cars can ice up at highway speeds if air intake heater from exhaust manifold not working.

Engine stalls

This sounds like the fuel pump is failing. It will need to be analyzed and tested to be sure. the stalling at highway speed could be fuel starvation and the no start when warm is vapor lock, both point to a fuel pump that is not producing at speck pressure.

I have a 97 Volvo 850 base model with the 2.4 engine. Engine stalls ONLY in hot weather. I've replaced the MAF 3 times, No OBDII codes are thrown. I replaced the fuel filter. Cleaned all electri

Fuel injection relay. It is located under the hood inside the fuse box. It is either red or green in color. It is one of the larger relays. This is classic symptom of these things going bad. The heat causes the relay to swell and not engage properly. They die out every couple of years. Usually the car will start again after it cools down.

I have a 96 Mercury Grand Marquis. The car lurches while driving feeling like it will conk out. Usually when going uphill on the highway and trying to accelerate or maintain speed. This does not happen all...

I have a 96 Grand Marquis with a similar problem. Also on the highway it would just conk out on me suddenly, almost felt like I was hitting the brakes, then it would pick up again. Eventually got to the point where it was stalling out on the highway and at red lights. One day it wouldn't start. Mechanic said the fuel filter was clogged solid. It has run well but every once in awhile still stalls out on me. From talking with other Grand Marquis owners and the mechanic the Mass Air Flow sensor may be to blame. He wanted to charge me $400 but I found the part online for about $85.

Have a 96 camry 4 cyl auto. After highway driving, the idle becomes rough and wants to stall. The problem eventually goes away after driving a city speeds. Around town, it runs all day just fine. Help ,...

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
