SOURCE: 2001 Mazda MPV upper front oxygen sensor change

I replaced this sensor about 6 months ago. (If this is the sensor that is located near the firewall on the exhaust manifold under the ignition coil.) The only way to easily replace it, is to remove the MAF and air filter assy. then remove the intake plenum, remove the ignition coil, and then you'll have access to the sensor. You'll need a sensor removal socket. If the socket slips around the hex of the sensor, then you'll need to use a regular deepwell socket and cut the cable from the top of the sensor, or use a combination wrench that will fit it.
The most difficult part of removing the intake plenum is getting the nut loose from the EGR valve. DO NOT just remove the two bolts holding it to the intake plenum. It will not line up correctly during re-assembly and may not seal tightly either.
This took about a Saturday to do. You'll need new plenum gaskets to replace the old. While your at it remove the throttle body and clean the carbon from the ports that lead to the EGR valve and replace that gasket as well. The gaskets will run about $30.

SOURCE: Engine warning light on Mazda MPV 2002

There seem to be 4 sensors along the way in the air intake and emissions system.

My Check Engine light indicated a bad sensor 1, bank 2 code (I think).

I had my mechanic replace the sensor that was indicated as faulty... cost = $191.

Then the Check Engine light came on again (with a different code), and I had to leave the van with him all day.

Cost to replace and install that sensor = $115.

My advice: if the Check Engine light stays on *AND* your vehicle is riding rough, get it fixed.

Otherwise, put a piece of tape over that Check Engine light and save a couple hundred dollars!

Hope this helps, I do trust my mechanic fully.

SOURCE: Where is the bank 2 o2 sensor located on a 2004

bank 2 is the cylinder in the front of the engine compartment near the radiator, the O2 is either in the exhaust manifold of the bank or in the exhaust pipe off the manifold, round about the size of a jumbo magic marker, you need a special O2 sensor socket to remove it in some cases, if it is in the open then a 7/8 open end wrench will work.

SOURCE: where is bank 2 sensor 1 oxygen sensor on a 2001

In a V6 or V8 engine the driver's side cylinders are one bank and the passenger side, the other bank. I would imagine "Bank 2" is the side without the the #1 cylinder on it. The sensor is screwed into the exaust manifold which is bolted to the cylinder head. "Sensor 1" denotes it from the downstream (post catalytic converter) sensor(s), which is referred to as "Sensor 2"

Hope helps.
