The cigarette lighter receptacle is loose I'm my 1998 mercury grand marquis. It prevents me from making a good connection with the adapter for my cell or gps. Can this be tightened.

Your lighter should be on a twenty amp, assy fuse I believe. Have you checked to make sure you have no voltage at your lighter, if so it is the fuse. all assy on every car have fuses

SOURCE: Cigarette lighter doesn't work in my 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis

sounds like the lighter itself is bad because the fuse for the lighter is the same as the fuse for the connecter in which the inspection machine plugs in to.

SOURCE: My cigarette lighter 1996 mercury grand marquis

Your thought that the end of something fell into the lighter fried something is likely true. I can't imagine that the wire could be fried and the fuse is still good. check to see if the fuse you checked was the right one. If it was and it is good, a wire on the back of the receptacle may have come lose. The end that fell into the receptacle, did it get hot or damaged? That could be a clue as to if the receptacle was shorted when the end fell into it or if not, then look for a lose connection.

SOURCE: cigarette lighter for 92 mercury grand marquis dose not work can not find fuse box

Theres a Black fuse box under the hood , on drivers side, that has fuses as well as the one inside under the dash. There will be a fuse diagram on the cover. It will more than likely be a 20 amp fuse. if no diagram you can purchase a fuse tester at your local parts store. some even cone with fuses. check the type of fuses it takes first and buy the assortment package they come with a tester. Believe it or no I use the fuses that actually light up when they blow. Makes it a hell of a lot easier to find which ones blown.

I'm trying to find the cigarette lighter fuse for a 2000 Grand Marquis

The socket is called a power point, it is not a cigar lighter. You can find the location of the fuse in the owner's in the "Roadside Emergencies" section. Here is link to the manual, it is a Crown Victoria which is the same car, the Grand Marquis manuals are no longer published from Ford. http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/Catalog/owner_information/2000-CrownVicotria-version-2_om_EN-US_12_1999.pdf

How many lighters in a 1997 grand marquis gs

Is it the lighter itself or is it the receptacle the lighter goes in? Some times the lighter has to be replaced as the coil burns out .and it could be a blown out fuse as well.

Cigarette lighter doesnot work

It has a fuse in the fuse box, did you check that? If that's ok, try a different lighter element in it. There's a connector on the wire behind the receptacle, could it have gotten jostled off? Lastly, the receptacle itself, they're available at most any parts store. You're not still smoking, are you? Maybe it's a message from your car.

1993 Mercury Tracer cigarette lighter

I assume that you tried the cigarette lighter itself and didnt rely solely that the charger was working properly. When you tightened the ring on caseing did you see that the wire connected on the back of the lighter was properly attatched, sometimes a good connection loosens up especially if caseing was found to be loose.. Well assuming it was properly connected you could test the circuit with either a multimeter or 12 volt test light if power is found at connection then you problem is definetly the cigarette lighter assembly itself.. I hope this was helpful...Let me know I would appreciate it
