Okay this vehicle is 27 years old. It may well have out lived its usefulness. Have you thought about getting a newer vehicle that does not cause such problems?
BAD FUEL PUMP CHECK FOR FUEL PRESSURE WHEN ENGINE DIES AGAIN,IF YOU GET ZERO FUEL PRESSURE FUEL PUMP COULD BE BAD, I WOULD REPLACE FUEL PUMP RELAY FIRST BEFORE BUYING NEW FUEL PUMP.IF FUEL OKAY YOU COULD HAVE CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS OR WATER IN FUEL, FUEL COULD BE CONTAMINATED. I HAVE SEEN A FAULTY ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CAUSE ENGINE TO STALL OUT.
Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. You need to check the fuel pressure to see if it is getting gas. You can check it from the fuel line. You can try hitting the gas tank a few times and then try starting it. If it is the fuel pump, this may cause it to activate and work. You can check to see if there is fuel coming to the fuel filter or going through the filter. Make sure the filter isn't clogged up. You can always use starter fluid or a little gas in the intake. If it starts for a second or two, you probably have a fuel issue. If it only cranks, you may have an issue with the ignition system, such as a cam sensor, bad plugs or wires, distributor, crank sensor. If your computer has picked up on anything, your check engine light will be on. You can get specific codes from your computer that explain what part is not working. You have to have an OBDII scanner though. You need fuel, air, and fire to start a vehicle. Try hitting the gas tank first to see if it will start. When you first turn the key, you should hear a humming sound for a second or two. If you do, then the pump is probably working. If not, the pump is probably not working. You need to test for fuel and spark. Hit the tank and let me knoe if it starts.
The car is either not getting gas or not getting spark. It could be a weak battery, bad spark plugs or wires, bad coil pack/distributor, clogged fuel filter or spark plugs, or a defective fuel pump. These are the most common causes of this problem and and except the fuel pump and sometime fuel filter are relatively easy to replace yourself. Good luck and happy hunting!
are the injectors delevering fuel to the engine? to see if they are get acan of spary starting fluid from the auto parts or a hardware store, spray it into the air intake, if the engine startsd the injectors are not "pulsing"
nO SIMPLE SOLUTIONS HERE NEED 3 THINGS FOR CAR TO RUN AIR SPARK AND GAS COULD BE A COOUPLE CLOGED FUEL INJECTORS oR IF YOU DO A LOT OF SHORT TIME DRIVING LIKE A COUPLE MILES TO WORK AND BACK OR DROP KIDS OFF AT SCHOOL ECT iT DOESN'T HEAT UP YOUR CATALITIC CONVERTER AND A LOT OF SHORT TRIPS REALLY CLOGS THEM UP...
AND CLOGGED CATALIC CONVERTER WON'T REV UP AND PROBABLY CAN'T GET CAR UP PAST 50MPH
