SOURCE: how many catalytic converters on a Mazda Mpv 2003

I disagree. I believe there is 2 cats on the 03 MPV. If you look under the car. The 2 pipes from the headers meet right before the muffler. There is 1 cat under the vehicle and another right off the header (looks like an old glass pack muffler).

SOURCE: My 2002 3.0L V6 Mazda Tribute is blowing out the

I have the exact same problem right now. It is possible that a misfire due to a faulty coil damaged the pre-cat and I found pieces of it clogged in the main converter. Unfortunately, to repair it right, I would suggest replacing all three converters as well as upgrading the coils to napa echlin coils.

SOURCE: I need to replace my mazda mpv catalytic

Ok the fastest way to solve weather it is the cats in the exhaust system is to take it too a exhaust specialist and ask them to do a exhaust pressure test. They should have all the pressure drop data there and can tell you if there is to much restriction in the exhaust, if there is to much chances are they will be the cats, usually the front one. Yep your dad is correct with his theory, but excessive overfuelling will also cause the cats to build up excess heat and start to melt, or fall apart. So get a good service when your able too, plugs/filters and oils. Yep your firing order is correct.

1994 mazda 626 stalling, hesitating and won't go over 35mph

Sound like a bad Catalytic Converter not allowing the eingine to breath or blow the exhaust out. You should have an engine light on and it may also be flashing as well.

2004 mazda tribute idles high and manifold glows red hot after only 20 minutes after running

When you say manifold, I assume you mean the exhaust manifold. If its the one you can see (there is an exhaust manifold on the back of the engine also for the rear 3 cylinders) its a clogged or fried catalytic converter. There are a couple of catalytic converter cleaners on the market you can try, but most likely it will need to be replaced. Was there another problem recently i.e. bad coil pack etc?

Can a bad catalytic converter cause the ignition coils to go bad

A bad catalytic converter can cause your vehicle to run rough and even seem to stall and hesitate around 40 to 50 miles per hour, this will feel like a ignition problem, the simplest way I found to check a cat is with a cheap infrared or temperature probe, check Amazon or Ebay, they are inexpensive enough, you don't need great accuracy , nothing expensive. The tempeture of the cat after the engine is hot will be approximately 30-40 degrees hotter on the output of the catalytic converter than the input, also the exhaust will have an odor of rotten eggs.

Conveter system gets hot and burns gas

If you are talking about the Catalytic convertor getting hot then most likely it is clogged or just bad all together. If you got under the vehicle with just your hand, and thumped on it a few times, if it makes a rattling noise that is one way to diagnose it. If you see it getting red hot then that is a sign that it is clogged and needs to be replaced. When the Catalytic goes bad, you will start to see your gas mileage go down hill pretty quickly.

2002 mazda tribute how many converters?

Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute same engine same problem check out Catalytic Converter problems on both in the long run will have to replace all 3 of the converters may blow a hole in the EGR valve too. Go for after market parts will save you money and not going thru a dealership will help but expect to pay close tto $1,800 mostly due to labor to replace these parts. If you have a check engine light try going to Auto parts store and use their computer to check out code. Not getting this fixed will leave you stranded when it goes. Vehicle will suddenly bogg down and trust me when your doing 60 mph on the hwy. and suddenly this happens to you not a good feeling. Hope this helps.
