SOURCE: 2002 dodge stratus will not start
i had the same problem on thursday. luckily for you this is a non-interference engine. they call it. that means the valves revert back to netural positioning when the belt snaps. youre car did the same exact thing as mine. it is a pain in the *** to change though. you gotta take the engine just about halfway out and go up and down, up and down with a jack underneath the oilpan to position it to get to all of the screws and bolts and ****. if you are not mechanically inclined, have a friend do it or pay a shop. the shop will cost you though, im pretty sure a couple weeks pay. i recommend getting rid of your stratus, i use to love them till i had to start working on mine all the time and they are such **** built cars its not funny. i take a door panel off and **** falls apart, its stuff like that that makes me hate mine. hope this helped, have a good day!

The knock sensor is threaded into the block of the engine, just below where the cylinder head sits. You will need to remove the intake plenum (upper and lower) to access this part.

Anytime a Chrysler product of this year has a check engine light, get it to a dealer immediately. The 2.7 liter engine is notorious for oil sludging. This can be a dangerous problem that can destroy the engine.
Your problem may have nothing to do with oil sludging, and I hope it doesn't; but don't take a chance.
Google "Chrysler engine oil sludging."
