it sounds as if the fault codes are running and the audible alarm for the air bags is operating. Have a dealer service centre check it out and if that is the case then fit the air bags . After all the bags will save a life in the event of an accident.
well, if your air bag light is flashing then your system is already disabled. You have no worries about it deploying on you or anything, it just means that there is a problem that needs to be resolved before the system will activate again and work. Just like a check engine light, the air bag computer will have a stored code that can be read with a code reader, not like the ones you can use at a parts store though. You need to have your codes read and that will tell you where the problem is.
The light (on the key switch) that indicates whether the passenger airbag is on or off is, more than likely, burned out. You can either replace the whole switch ($$$) or you can take it apart and solder a new led into the circuit board. You can get the bulb at radio shack (make sure it is 12v). Good Luck!
you will have to replace the Restraint Control Module to clear the error. Until then the airbag should not deploy in a crash. It should be located under the radio.
A possible solution. i have a 2002 ranger in which the air bag light would present itself. i discoved that the passenger air bag indicater bulb was out if i had the airbag on or off. its located next to the key switch. i pulled it appart and notice the bulb was bad. replacing it fixed the problem. there is a catch. this bulb is solderd to the circuit board and you have to get it from radioshack. is a simple task if have a solder kit. hope that helps.
When you first start the truck the air bag system does a diagnostic. The light comes on because there is a fault in the system. Needs to be scanned, I suspect they will find a problem with the front impact sensor. Either it was damaged, or the wiring to it was damaged when you went into the ditch.
