SOURCE: I.P Brake light is staying on.. what does this mean

Hi,

Offhand, the brake light warning on most dashboards would indicate that the hand/emergency brake is engaged. If even when the hand/emergency brake is disengaged or is in normal position and the light is still lit, it could indicate that:

  • the brake fluid in the reservoir is below minimum level;
  • and possibly the brake shoes/pads need replacement.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: dashboard lights

Transaxle issue according to the manual. I have the same car. After I had to have the tranny rebuilt at 126K it started to blink. When I had a mechanic check into this deeper it turned out to be a bad transmisson tempature sensor. About a $400 fix.

What does it mean when my transaxle light comes on I have a 2000 mercury sable

It means that the Transmission control module has detected a fault in the operation of the transmission or its controls. You now need it scanned to see what fault code or codes was set in the memory of the TCM.

What does it mean when the engine light comes on the dash of a 2000 Mercury Sable? All fluids are fine. Is this a Maintenance reminder? I have no owner's manual.

it could mean a million different things. the fluids will usualy be the last things to cause this. best i can say is either pull the fuse for the 'EFI' for 2 minutes or disconnect the battery for 2 minutes and it will clear it but if it comes back at all go to somewhere that will read codes for free like a parts store.
