Where is the fuel relay switch located on a 2001 Mazda protege?

Check or replace the relay for the fuel pump.

didnt know 1998 had an inertia reset switch

has a fuel pump relay

cant be sure but looks like the tank has to come out to fit a petrol pump

toss water on the CAS ..if hot see if the motor fires

signal comes from the ecu
could be faulty fuel pump /relay ?

The only fuel cutoff is made by the ECU, relay and fuel pump. There is no additional switch.

The fuel pump relay is located under the dash on the right side of the center console.

check inertia switch "emergency fuel shut off" call local mazda dealer.ask for parts dept and ask them for location of switch.

go to rockauto.com and look up fuel filter for your application. It shows an intank fuel filter.

A 2001 Mazda Protege (actually, all models from 1999-2003 including the DX, LX, ES, Mazdaspeed, and Protege 5) does not have an inline fuel filter. The only fuel filter it has is a "strainer" or a "screen", which looks like a nylon mesh "sock". This strainer is connected to the fuel pump, located in the gas tank. Although this fuel strainer does not require periodic replacement, it is recommended that it be changed if you are replacing the fuel pump.
