1995 Calillac Sedan Deville's A/C Compressor Pulley / Clutch is broke. How can I bypass the A/C Compressor and still drive the car? Is there a shorter sepentine belt I can get? And route it around the pulleys? Thanks, JACK*
It is possible. What you have to do is gat a belt for a vehicle that has the same engine as your car but with out A/C. It will have to be a Chevy or some other GM brand other than Cadillac. You cannot get a Caddy without A/C. I would go to a junk yard and look under the hood of a few cars. Some times even though the engines are the same the acessories may be in different places. When you find something with the same engine and acessories in the same place and no A/C just get a new belt for that car and put it on yours. You may have to remove your A/C compressor to make this work. Good Luck.

This is Jack and Lynne. You would use a ""GATES K060615 6PK1562 13/16" x 62 1/8" OC / 20mm x 1577mm OC"" Belt, costs $21.00 at O'Reillys. My wife held up the Tension pulley and I threaded on the orginal 87" serpentine belt bypassing the A/C's pulley. We used the line where the belt is fused together at the factory and I pulled up the slack to that line and marked it. I measured the slack, line to line and that was 25 inches. So, 87" minus 25" equal 62 inches. I went to O'Reillys and bought a 61", 62", 63" and 64" belts. (O'Reillys were GREAT they worked with me and credited back the other belts) We put on the 63" and let down the Tension pulley and started the engine and the Tension pulley dropped all the way down. We took it off and put on the 62" belt, my wife let down the Tension pulley and it came down 1/4 leaving 3/4 of Tension to play with. We Started the engine and the belt ran properly and we've been driving the car for 2 weeks and the belt is doing Great and the car hasn't overheated. ""NOTE: Put the belt over the Water Pump pulley LAST, it's a smooth pulley and the belt slipped over it easily."" Actually, my wife had the hard job holding the Tension Pulley up with a rachet and pipe. Now we can drive the car and schedule getting a new A/C when finances permit. JACK* and Lynne
