SOURCE: I HAVE A 1991 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE WITH OVER 250K

Holy **** you need a new transmission or check the fluid in it. Cus that shaking means the trans is locking up and doesnt want to move get that checked out soon. Or the mounts could be gone also. But either way thats not safe. Hope that helps

Car violently shakes when I start moving and stops shaking when it kicks into second gear (automatic transmission). It also shakes a bit when coming to a complete stop and it jerks front and back if...

A lack of power or a vehicle running rough can caused the vehicle to "shake" and also a broken motor mount or transmission mount can cause the problem.
If it's running rough it could be because of one of two fairly common problems. One is a leak in the air duct between the air filter and the throttle body. The other is a leak from rubber hoses connecting the intake to the PCV valve at the crankcase causing a vacuum leak. More serious problems such as a misfire from a bad coil pack or a blown head gasket can also cause the vehicle to lose power and run poorly but these are not as common.

Steering wheel shaking at higher speeds and when braking

The shaking is probably caused by two seperate things. First shaking at high speeds is usually tire balance. Second the shaking when braking is usually the front pads are worn and the rotors need refinishing. If you have these two things checked and corrected your problem will go away.
