Why do I smell gas in and around 2010 mazda 3

Really strong odor in car with full tank

  • Michael Ishoj Sep 18, 2017

If you live where there is a lot of salt, you could be looking at a leaky fuel tank, gas line or a combination of the two
    - look underneath for fuel spots, or drips on the pavement, or if possible, put the car on a hoist, get a mechanic to look for the leak, then GOOGLE: Fuel Lines, or Gas Tank, and hours labor
    - this will give you an idea of what this fuel leak will cost

My 2010 Mazda 3 is showing full tank of gas when it's actually almost empty therefore it will not accept more gas.

If you cannot fill the tank because of an erroneous reading then it is time to replace the gas gauge sending unit responsible for the anomaly. Hope fully you can do it from the trunk - otherwise you will have to drop the gas tank to gain access.

Car intermittently has strong gas smell. No gas is visible on or around motor or at fuel pressure regulator. Nothing seems to set it off (Eg. full tank or low tank). No gas residue on garage floor. Gas...

things that you need to look for (if you are capable):

1-do you regularly overfill your gastank to the brim? If so, these are the fumes from that overflowed to the EVAP charcoal canister.

2-check to see if there's any overall fuel line/hose deterioriation.

3-check to see if you have fuel leak from your pressurised fuel rail.
4-check the vacuum(some of them are now electromechanical) EVAP solenoid.

Strong gas odor but no leaks

I had an old chevy truck that was carbureted with a mechanical fuel pump. I drove for months with the same fuel smell. It ended up being a small hole in the pump itself, on the side of the engine. It evaporated too quickly from the hot engine temperature to catch. hope maybe that might help if you have a mechanical pump.

Strong Diesel Smell inside HJ Turbo Diesel Landcruiser

Since you didnt notice any change in the performance of your engine, ill presume there's nothing wrong with your fuel injectors.
look for moisture around your gas tank cap, the hose and clamps going down the tank, around the fuel gauge sending unit of your tank. have your fuel line checked from the tank to your fuel injection pump, give particular importance around the connections of your fuel filter, fuel pump, and the return hose from your fuel injection going back to your tank.
Diesel do emit strong hazardous odors that may stick on carpets inside your car.

Gasoline odor

Oh yes there is and there is a charcol canister up under the hood that captures the vapors if the canister is full you could smell fuel.
You will need a shop that has a SMOKE MACHINE to find the leak in the evaporative emissions plumbing from the tank to the engine compartment.
