The starter won't crank. If nothing happens when you turn the ignition key to the "Start" position, it means that the starter motor doesn't turn over the engine. Most commonly this could be caused by a dead battery; here is How to check the battery. ... The starter motor itself or a starter solenoid could be bad.13 Aug 2013

car not starting when key is turned to the on position Google Search

Testimonial: "i have tried another good battery from another car and jumping started from another running car just to give it a extra boost but nothing so i opened up the starter motor and cleaned it all up with degreaser and sprayed a bit of crc after bit of wipe with a clean cloth just so it won't rust out and start jamming so i fully striped it and applied grease and oil just a finger wipe because of the electrical and sanding the solenoid bushes with fine sandpaper 240 grit,so after cleaning oiling and ect...and sanding the starter wires washers and even the nuts on both sides so there's no shortage any where for job well done and that was my first time ever i opened a starter and servicing one and it started but only thing was i stuffed up my ignition but i bypassed the wire's with on and off switch because of the starting position on ignition wouldn't turn the engine so after all the research and reading everything to do with engine starting problems wiring and ect..SOLVED at last many thanks to every one with bit of info and knowledge it helps alot :)"

the clicking that you hear is coming from the starter relay. sounds like your ignition starter switch or ignition lock cylinder is bad.

Won't start

Switch on head lights or cabin light. If they doesn't come on or is weak, the battery is flat. Ensure that you switch off the lights.
With ignition switched on, assuming the lights on the instrument panel cames on and your immobiliser is deactivated, turn ignition to start. You should hear the solenoid at the starter making a click sound. If not, the battery is flat or the starter solenoid is faulty. If it does make a click sound, the battery could be too low to turn the starter or the starter is faulty. Assuming the immobiliser is working correctly, and the starter tries to turn the engine but it doesn't want to turn, the gasket could be blown and the cylinder filled with water, or the engine could be seized.
Hope it is not the last case. MarioCpt

BMW 318i wont start engine

I would have the battery tested. When they get cold they get weak. Next I would look at the wires on the starter to see if their loose.

1985 BMW 325e will not start

rcaf arrow: The clicking sound id probably your starter solenoid. Tis solenoid is actually a relay that connects your starter to the battery so the starter can turn the engine over to get it started.
Try knocking the starter with a hammer, (not real hard, just kinda medium) and see if that makes a difference  I suspect your starter is going bad.
Any indication of prior problems with starting?????
