Weak battery - 2007 VW EOS

Bought car new 10/06. With lots of driving and no problems, now battery is weak. Discovered no one sells a battery for this car except the dealer. Is this true? Can battery be charged up? Have 60,000 miles on car. If not, how much is a new battery for this car.

All of a sudden, the car is not starting up properly. Wouldn't start up at all. Needed a jump to get it going. It starts up with a ticking noise (that is why I though battery cause it sounded like it is weak). Never did this before.

    2.0 - battery under hood.

    No navigation system.

Navigation System? There's talk of some Sat Nav's being replaced because they were draining batteries...

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Do you have the 2.0 or the 3.2 engine? Do you have a battery under the hood or two in the trunk? Do you have the Satellite Navigation system?

Why do you think you have a battery problem?

I don't think it's a battery. The ticking noise along with the dead battery leads me to believe you might have a belt/pulley issue. The serpentine/accessory belt and pulleys are all part of your charging system. It's how your alternator charges your battery. If there's something up with one of the pulleys or the belt (slipping?) in that system then your battery isn't going to charge properly. I have 6 yrs and 225,000m on my original battery in my Jetta - although I have a new alternator because the pulley fell off of mine...

The ticking sounds like the solenoid on the starter motor poling and then due to lack of power in the battery setting back. (common indicator) to check your battery is low switch on your headlights and try to start the engine. the lights will dim or go out if the battery is low.
if they stay bright it is most likely your starter motor or other electrical problem.
so assuming the lights dim your battery is the problem.
ensure you do not have any light in the back staying on when the boot (trunk) is closed. or other electics on such as radio on mute. this will cause a battery to get low while parked.
if your battery is not being charged you will have a red battery non charge light on the dash when your engine is running.
newer batteries have a smalll window on the top which should show green if it is showing any other colour it probably needs changing.
the usual life of a battery is 5 years from new if you have bought the car second hand A previous owner may have put an old battery on the car UMMM. the date of manufacture should be on the battery also if the battery is new check if you have warrenty on it.
cost for replacement in Europe is between 60 and 100 Euro for the US i do not know more any reputable automotive supplier should be able to give you a good deal if not consult your VW dealership.
WARNING batteries can be dangerous if not handled with the correct precautions.they are also heavy and contain toxins.

Hi. The vw do make a ticking noise from low voltage to the relays. The batteries if you have a v6 are 2, 6 volt batteries. Thee are jump start poles in the engine bay, and you use a normal 12v battery charger to charge them at these posts. The batteries are available as aftermarket replacment parts, but are normally no cheaper than the dealership.

Where are the batteries in my 2007 eos

The old VWs had the battery under the rear seat due to lack of space elswhere.I think they stayed with tradition on the new ones.(a lot of larger cars have done this to help with weight distribution and the ever-growing load of tech stuffed under the hood).

The trunk of my 2007 Eos convertible won't close

i havent ever had this problem but i'm familiar with the eos so i can say almost undoubtedly that the you have a bad trunk latch. there is a switch in the trunk latch that tells it if it's closed or open and i'm guessing that the switch is bad. once the switch tells the car that the trunk is closed, it runs the motor that close the trunk fully.

however, i say again that i've never had this problem on an eos so there is a fair amount of room for other issues. volkswagens are rather complicate and use a lot of different switches and such in the convertible top. also, the only way to know for sure is to bring your vehicle to the vw dealer becuase only the vw 5051 scan tool is capable of reading the inputs and outputs of the convertible top control module and this is what is required to properly diagnose the problem. don't waste your time throwing parts at it, the dealer should be able to give you a 100% positive diagnosis with one hours labor (about $90)

2005 MKV Golf cannot go into reverse on its tiptronic gearbox

Find a VW mechanic, those cars are known to have weak automatic and manual transmissions. You probably need a new one. Don't cheap out and buy a used one or you'll be sorry when it doesn't last. A quality rebuilt trans should have at least a 1 year warranty.
