I am leaking coolant from the crossover tube gasket. I have replaced the gasket and it is still leaking from the same spot. The leak is where the o ring sits in the gasket???

    Harold, just comment this post.
if you start another post, it causes lack of continuity, but this forum you are on here.
is in fact , Abnormal to all real forums.
there are lots of failure modes of all parts in cars, (all machines of man)
    deformation
    rust. corrosion
    warping
    erosion.
    cracks,
closer examination of the parts, will find this.
    or replace it.
if really serious, post photos of offending part, and magic can happen.

Usa car
2.0L J20 engine?

no photos of mating junction;.
but sure, a new O-ring can not seal against damaged
machined parts. looking at the sealing juncture for damage
is the correct method.
sure RTV can fix anything, as it seems.
its under 14psi pressure, so doing it wrong, and you blow a good engine. Id replace the corroded parts for a full service life.
but that's me.

Did you examine the sealing surface for corrosion and pitting?? That is likely why it is leaking. You can try adding some RTV sealant to the O ring, that will fill the pits and most likely seal it up.

2001 pontiac sunfire will not hold any antifreeze, why and whats wrong with my car????

General advice:U must track the leak .How much it takes to loose the coolant?.If the coolant shows under the car must identify the tubes clamps that need tighten or replace. If a radiator related problem need clean/solder/replace.If leaky water pump, replace. If no trace of coolant ceck the oil.If is color altered(milky)u have a head gasket ahead (with head revision)or a broken engine block/piston cyclinder. If the oil is ok,ceck the smoke:whity smoke means coolant in the pistons head.Again best guess:head gasket (can leak also in the intake manifold).Very rare coolant shows in some cars in the power stearing oil (!?) track the tubes.Tip:colored coolant (green...)is better visible in leaks.Tip:water coolant may show rusty spots where dissapearing (radiator, expansion deposit, pitched tube).Hope u deal it.Cheers.

Leaking coolant from above transmission while started or killed

look for heater hose connections first and check these..some models use coolant to warm up/ cool the tbi unit by way of a hose to the base of it or gaskets and passages made into the design of that particular model, if so equipted these gaskets need replacing..some models use a crossover tube between heads in the rear(older buicks had them on v-6 and v8 engines)and they do fail on occaision by rustout or gasket failure..check these and repost the findings please..thnx

87 ford ranger coolant leak not from water pump replaced it today appears to be coming from right behind it

I can give you a couple of possible causes(1)freeze plugs in the block, there round & look like drink coasters, but are brass(2)intake manifold gasket can be leaking from the corners where water jackets are/also the head gasket both are on all four corners,I don't know what motor you have, but there are pipes that are called crossovers that run from the back off the timing cover to the heater core on the fire wall, sometimes on top of the manifold on one side & there will be a hose connected to it possible bad hose or corroded tube?

I am leaking coolant from the rear of the engine. Got under and was leaking by oilpan but could not see directly due to skid plates and oil etc. any ideas?? only leaks when the engine is running.

Had the same problem. Someone did work on the heads and did a lame job on the water crossover tube that connects to both heads. I solved the problem by replacing the 2 gaskets instead of the silicon they used. The bolts that hold the crossover tube on are to say the least a pain in the *** to get to. Plan on taking the plenum off.

Just bought a 1999 aurora with 4.0 liter v8, drove it 2 miles and was smoking from engine compartment smelled like antifreeze

There apparently is a coolant leak, could be the radiator, upper or lower radiator hoses, water pump, heater hoses or thermostat housing gasket.

2005 Ford F250 6.0L Diesel - ( 63,000.mi) Excessive water vapor in exhaust - is there any other possibility than a leaking head gasket - loosing coolant.

is the coolant level for sure dropping quickly?.i have heard of the oil coolers going bad on the 6.0 litre, but not a head gasket yet.Even at 63,000 miles.if you are for sure its eating coolant, try tightening some intake bolts,or crossover tube bolts.if it stops burning it which will take time, easier watching the coolant level than to wait for the exhaust to clear up,then consider replacing the intake gasket soon.

My '93 ford explorer is leaking coolant. It only leaks 1/2 gallon and stops. I checked the hoses and they are not leaking but I can see leakage coming from a part of the engine I can not see, due to a lot...

alot of these explorers had a problem with the radiator leaking around the edge of the aluminum and plastic sides. An easy way to see the leak is to get a black light at night or in a really dark garage, the coolant is floresent and should make it easier to spot.

1998 mustang gt coolant leak

I just had the same problem. Ford design the intake manifold with plastic water crossover which cracks. The coolant will leak onto the top of the block and and then down the back of the engine. This intake design is a known defect and was ocvered under by Ford for 7 years past the date of mfg. The crack either is in the crossover or the thermostat housing. I happed on this when I found the same leak and traced it back to the thermostat housing. I changed the thermostat, but it leaked worse. You can pickup a aftermarket for $200 and it's about 4-6 hr job to replace.
