First you have to make sure full batt power available, second turn the key (if any) to on position . third jump contacts on the starter motor to create power circulation and hear if starter o selonoid works.

When turn key on starter makes atinney sound does not engage flywheel

if your battery is low on charge or you have to jump it off it may already be engaged and stuck in flywheel try turning motor by hand back and forth listen if you hear it pop out then try to start with good battery if doesnt work replace starter it could be the selinoid switch but you have to pull starter anyway so just replace all of it

2000 chev wont start at key

From the ignition switch there is a yellow wire that is for the starter. probe it when trying to start. If you have no voltage replace the switch. Also, I believe there is a fusible link in the wire by the starter. It will be a different color than purple. Probe on the back side of it to see if there is voltage at start up. If so, replace with the smae color link.

My truck wont start battery is brand new all gueges work when i turn the key but it wont crank?

If you look down where the starter is you will see al little round selinoid with to things sticking out that look like screws and have nuts and wires going to them. Take a good gauge wire and jump across them. If the starter does not kick in or spin over then your starter is bad. If it does kick over then there is a good chance that the ignition switch has gone bad.

if you have power to the solenoid on the starter pull in post but nothing happens thenthe brushes need to be replaced in the starter.the brushes let the solenoid go to grounrnd for the lenght of of time it takes to engage the solenoid pull coil and the switch and relay take over during the hold mode of the starter.usually will find the lead from the solenoid to the brushes has rotted off,or brushes are gone.
