I have an 06 Equinox that makes a grinding sound only in reverse. I can put it down in drive and the noise goes away. What in the world could it be...

sounds like your one of your hubs on the front axle are staying engaged when you turn off the 4wd. By reselecting the 4wd high and back to 2wd hi it is causing it to release. Get it looked at these can get expensive if damage is done.

You can turn a rotor once or twice but each time you do, you are removing metal...The rotors today are really not thick enough to put up with too much of that before they are too thin to be useful. In removing metal they will not dissipate heat well and are then more prone to warping. I suggest you replace them and make sure that the caliper slides are well lubricated and the pistons are not binding. The rear adjusters are designed so that they adjust themselves with normal use and unless the adjusters are frozen they should be where they should be. Most don't have a provision to do any adjustments manually, so if there is a problem, you will need to take the rear brakes apart and check to make sure everything is free.

Hello, there is two ways to remove the drums. First way is to use a hammer and tap the back side of the drum as you rotate it untill it becomes free. Second way is to use a brake spool to back the shoes off, on the back side of the drum is a small opening it may be covered by a piece of rubber. Just pop that out, using the brake spool rotate the star wheel key till the shoes are backed off the drum than it should come right off.

Good Evening, those noises can be annoying and sometimes hard to find. However it sounds like you have a front hub assembly going bad. Usually the noise goes away when you veer one direction or the other. I have heard some transfer case noises but they usually do not go away on turns. Check those front hub-wheel bearing assemblies and see what you come up with. Hope this points you in the right direction.
