I have a 1994 gmc Jimmy 4x4 and I removed the speedometer and after reinstalling it the transmission will not shift and the speedometer doesn't work everything worked before I took it apart

There is no cable,it is all electric.If your speedometer works but no odometer then you have a problem in the intrument cluster.If neither works then you have a vehilcle speed sensor problem which is in the tail housing of the transfer case.
there is a cable which comes from the transmission and goes back into the speedometer try pressing both ends if it does not work it means your cable is broken get a new cable
You need to replace the speedo gear on your transmission or differential with the correct gear ratio to compensate for the size of tires your running. Maybe call a 4x4 store or truck accessories store for parts.
hi how are you doing? just had same problem with by gmc i replaced the transfurcase motor and it works fine. the electric motor moves the shifter in your transfurcase from 4hi to 4lo and 2hi.there is only 3 things that operate your 4x4 the switch the motor and the control modgual.

There are two things I would look at. First and least expensive is the neutral safety switch. It controls the shifting functions as far as PRNDL2L1. The other thing to check is the large bundle of wires that go into the passenger side of the transmission. Make sure it is in and seated.
If your check engine light is on and it is showing codes for the transmission, also check the ignition switch. They go out as well. The symptoms appear as starting out in 3rd gear with reverse ok or a touch of chatter.
