The clutch might be a hydraulic system. When it's leaking oil the pedal
sticks to the floor and has to be pulled back manually. Because it's
designed to be fail safe, it still works but only for some time till all
the oil has leaked out.
The burning smell might be clutch oil dripping on the exhaust - meaning the seal on the clutch servo is leaking oil.
There are repairkits for clutch servo's - usually it's suggested to replace the cylinder seal on the clutch pedal also.
did you check the fluid in the clutch slave? it may be leaking. if it is full either the clutch slave cylinder has went bad or the clutch master cylinder. the slave cylinder is located in the transmission the clutch master cylinder in connected to the clutch pedal and mounts to the fire wall. hope this helps
The fact that the clutch pedal went to the floor and stayed there suggest a fault in the master cylinder. It may be that you need to overhaul the master cylinder.
make sure the bleeder screw is not rusted closed some times it happens . take the bleeder screw out and step on clutch pedal but not all the way to floor see if any fluid comes out . it is possible the master is no good just because its new does not mean its good ! hope this helps
Need to have it check could be clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder or hose from clutch master cylinder to slave cylinder.check brake fluid at clutch master cylinder sit next to brake master cylinder if empty could have a leak. fill and pump peddle and look for leak.
If hydraulic actuated mechanism, loss of fluid, defective master cylinder or slave cylinder at the clutch. Missing pin or other part between slave cylinder and clutch arm. Loose or broken slave cylinder mounting. Missing pin or broken part between pedal and master cylinder. If mechanical linkage, look for broken components or missing pins at moving joints. If you tried to shift into gear with engine running, you may have damaged the transmission gears.
