Mobile lock smith can reprogram key into computer , AAA'S has lock smith . Is the security light lit on the instrument cluster with key in the ignition lock cylinder . Car an padlock symbol .
Hi there,
There is a (silly) safety lock on the ignition to stop it starting in gear, or the key being removed if not in park, and a sensible safety lock on the gear shift to stop kids letting it roll down a hill. Try putting your foot firmly on the brake, press the park release button beside the gear shift, while pulling the shifter out of park and back into park.
Getting the key out: Sometimes the steering wheel is placing pressure on the steering lock and key release mechanism, so try turning the steering wheel in any direction it can go while trying to release the key. It should come only out when you are in park.
funny but check your battery, connections and the charge lvl, if your alternater is intermitly charging may be that, when it happens try to jump just to see if key does release.
If the key is stuck in the ignition and cannot be removed, I would assume that the suv is still under warranty at the dealer. I would consult with them first.
It's part of the steering lock mechanism causing the issue. You probably turned everything off while the wheels were off center. Grab your steering wheel and pull it counter-clockwise with some strength and at the same time, try turning your ignition key. It should release.
**** the steering wheel hard side to side. That should release the interlock. Otherwise the ignition switch is worn (unusual in a 06 car unless it's an awful lot of stop and go driving).
