SOURCE: Starter won't start on 86 buick regal FI 3.8 L already replaced starter & verified all fuses ??

i finally fixed this one.apparently the theft prevention system was no longer able to measure the resistor in my key. That thing that everyone refers to as a "chip" in the key is only a resistor, one of like 10 or 12 std values that computer is set to recognize. measured key res with meter, cut wires running to ign key contacts that read key and inserted a res = res meas on key.problem solved, theft prevention perm. bypassed! read somewhere the only ones this system prevents from starting car is the owner when it starts malfunctioning......how true

SOURCE: when you turn the ignition switch on what sends 12 volt power to fuel pump fuse on 86 gmc s15 2.8

The pump relay powers the pump for 3 seconds, then again after oil pressure comes up above 5psi.

No power to coil with ignition on. Power at pin 30 all the time and pin 86 with ign on. negative at pin 87. 12v at pin 85.turn key on power at coil for 2 sec. Power at cavity 3 at comp. Fuel pump ok. Code...

Mike, I don't know what you are working on, Chrysler? Chevy? Chrysler and Jeep have an Automatic Shutdown Relay for power to the coil. But the only thing I know that gets a 2 second signal with key in on, is the fuel pump relay. The pcm sends a 2 second signal to pin 85 or 86 of the FP relay with key on to prime the fuel system. Do you need a wiring diagram?

I have a 1974 350 se merc, fuel pump has no power to it, at the fusebox there are 4 relays, 3 are 5 pin relays and 1 is a 4 pin with the number 0 332 008 001, 1 wire 86 goes to the fuse-30 goes somewh

# 30 is always direct power from the battery and or ignition switch from the battery to the relay to power the part. #87 is to the part it is sending power to. #85 and #86 can be swapped., One is grounded. The other is power from the ignition switch or any switch. #30 and #87 are the switch in the relay. # 85 and #86 are the coil in the relay. The coil pulls the switch closed to power the part.

2002 Astor Van will not start it turn over fine . I checked the fuses under the hood and the panal all where good. But I am not hearing the fuel pump on it when I turn the key to the on spot.

Did you check the fuel pump fuse? It's often all by itself, and not in the fusebox. This is the case on Chevy/GMC C/K trucks, it might be similar on the Astro van.

OK I HAVE REPLACED MY FUEL PUMP IN MY 2003 PONTIAC GRAND AM SE, THE FUEL SENDING UINT IS WORKING BUT THE PUMP IS NOT WORKING ,I HAVE CHECKED THE FUEL RAIL AND HAVE NO PRESSURE AND I HAVE ALREADY CHANGED...

O.K. this is going to be long but stick with me.
The gray wire that goes to the plug at the sending unit is the one to run the pump. We need to get power to this wire. This wire runs to the fuel pump relay. The relay has 4 pins one is the gray wire-one is the 15 amp power for the pump that has battery voltage with the key in the run and start position. one is ground and one is the relay trigger from the ecm. Pull the relay and look real close on the bottom side of it by the pins there will be numbers 30,85,86,87. 85 and 86 control the relay 30 is the power from the fuse and 87 is the gray wire going to your fuel pump. If you use a test light and see if it lights up between pin 85 and 86 when you first turn on the key (should come on for 5 seconds or so). If not we have a problem on the computer side. If so go to #2 below. If not ground test light and try 85 then 86 if it lights up on one of them when you first turn on key the other post (of 85 or 86) has a bad ground.
#2 So we now know the relay circuit is good Turn key on and check for voltage between post 30 and ground. if there is voltage then run a jumper wire from battery voltage through a 15 amp fuse to post 87 if the pump comes on its the relay if it stays off then there is a open in the circuit from the relay to the pump. don't forget to check for a good connection where the wires go into the plastic on the top of the sending unit. reply if I typed to fast and I can walk you through any step you have problems with.
Good Luck and God Bless

86 subaru gl wagon not firing.

I have the same problem with my 86 GL 4WD. One day it started to turn, and then lost all power. I couldn't even turn on the lights. I have played with the ignition switch wires, and gotten it to fire. I think there may be a short somewhere in the switch or the wires to the harness, but I have not isolated it yet. You might check your ignition switch and wiring...
