2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK) heater issues

I already had one failed blend door to begin with but it was blowing cold on the passenger side only, thus making it a low priority for me to fix. At the same time, I had most of the bulbs which were out on the automatic temperature control unit (common known problem on the WKs), so I had the "bright idea" to get replacement bulbs and sodder them myself. When replugging the unit back in its location I saw a little cloud of smoke... all the lights were now working and didn't think twice about it, until I checked the heater control which now was blowing cold air and was stuck in one position. Air flow would not change as I moved the knob around... so, my question is: has the second blend door failed or did my soddering attempt created a short circuit which failed the blower motor resistor? Checked the fuses and all seem ok. Please help: it's getting cold and I am not willing to pay $1,000 + at the dealership. Thanks in advance... Charles.

Cloud of smoke.
you let the smoke out because rule one was not done
remove neg, battery lug first
cars have powerfeeds all over that are hot, key off.
like head lights that is how they work key off
and the clusters, on jeeps have brain, that store data in memory.
this memory is hot all the time. (mine has 3 power feeds in my cluster)
so you you shorted this line , you did in fact burn something up.
that smoke was destruction.
why is a dealer all you know, there are like 100,000 shops in usa not a dealer, check out find ASE shop by ZIP
hark./ all highly trained.

did you scan the pcm to see what errors you have.
or test fuse? yes, test them.
fuses that bad , are bad, (boom)
fuse that seem ok, can be bad, called HAIR line crackes, some are deeply hidden in the fuse. we test them
did you run the cluster self test stated in the free manual>?

Testimonial: "Thanks a lot Juriy! You're right... Guilty as charged on the battery neg... this is where lazyness gets you! On a side note though, the reason for my post was that I had indeed taken it to my local mechanic who checked out the fuses and relays, hence leaving me with the less than desirable option of going to the dealer. I can also try another mechanic but before that will test all the fuses to be 100% sure... maybe my mechanic did what I did: only a visual inspection. Anyway, your reply was highly appreciated! Best Regards, Charles."

2000 grand cherokee heat not working on passenger side and barely blowing on driver's side.....plugged heater core? engine thermostat?

it is the heater blend door.....you can buy the piece off ebay for around 30.00 dollars the dealer can charge upwards of 800 dollars to fix because they take the steering column and dash apart...you can go through the glove box and cut a whole into ac system and access the blend door. old one slides out new one slides in this is farely easy and takes less than an hour

The passenger side only blows cold air, but the drivers side works correctly, what could cause this?

If the heater outlet air temperature cannot be
adjusted with the temperature control knob(s) on the
A/C Heater control panel, the following could require
service:
- The A/C heater control.
-The blend door actuator(s).
-The wire harness circuits for the A/C heater control
or the blend door actuator(s).
-The blend door(s).
- Improper engine coolant temperature

2001 jeep cherokee only has heat on passenger side

The dual blend door module is broken at the hinge. There is a revised part available at the dealer. You'll need to remove and open the ac/heater housing to replace it. To remove the housing, you'll need to lower the steering column and remove the instrument panel assembly. It's not an easy job but it can be done in your driveway if you have plenty of time and patience. I hope this helps.

2001 jeep heater on passenger side not working

there should be a small valve attached to a hose coming from the engine into the firewall this valve directs the hot engine coolant into the heater radiator in the heater box it probably is closed open it and, you should have heat then: it should be easy to find the reason it was closed

01 jeep grand cherokee heater works on driver side blows cold on passenger side

You have 2 posibilities.there are 2 motors on the heater box that run the blend doors for each side. That side motor may be bad or worst case the blend door arm that connects to the motor is broken. If it is broken the whole dash has to be removed so the heater box can be taken out to replace the blend doors.Big job,do a heater core while your there if you fix it so you dont have to do it again.

2002 jeep grand cherokee heater doesn't blow hot

If ythe heater core is not bad then I would replace the thermostat, this will stop the warm coolant running up to your engine go to the heater core.

2001 Grand Cherokee Heat on one side cold air on the other side?

The blend door on the passenger side has broken. Jeep has made a replacement section for the heater box assembly so you don't have to buy the whole thing. You will need to remove the heater/A/C box to replace the part. I have done quite a few of these repairs to fix the problem

Heat works on driver side, passenger side blows cold air.

Blend door for passenger side or blend door motor has failed. Very big job to remove dash and work on it. Except the door motor is accessable from the glove box.
