I am not familiar with this model but have experienced a similar nightmare on a very model. I suspect that the child safety locks are set which is stopping you opening the doors from the inside and the outside handles are not working because the latches may have been set in the locked position.
The door locks work through the body control module. If that's the module you recently replaced, have it checked for proper operation before looking elsewhere.
SHOULD PLUG MEMORY SAVER IN THE CIGARETTE.THE BMW VECHICLES IF YOU DISCONNECT THE BATTERY YOU WILL LOSE MEMORY TO THE ECM, IHKA CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE, ZKEV CENTRAL BODY CONTROL MODULE WHICH CONTROL DOOR LOCKS, WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND WASHERS,ANTI THEFT SYSTEM, INTERIOR LIGHTS RADIO ALL THESE COMPONENTS HAS TO BE REPROGRAM USING A BMW SCAN TOOL.
Well, the lights on our 1998 Ford Taurus stay on for a 'limited' amount of time, say 20 minutes and automatically turn off, even if the door is left open or if the glove box light is left on due to a door left open.
I wonder if your body control computer is faulty in your 2004 Excursion?
Or, if the body control computer is fine, and it doesn't have this feature, then I would see if the door latch switch needs to have wd-40 sprayed on it.
We have a 1999 Ford Expeditioin that had this problem with the door open light going on when the door was actually closed. The tech sprayed wd-40 on the locking mechanism and the problem went away.
Dealer is correct that you have too replace the bcm, so i would tell you to call junk yard and get one. Cheap $ 50.00 put it in by yourself. Right hand side of the glove compartment. behind the fuse box with couple connectors on it, or have some person with knowledge to do it.
was the damage to the front was closer to the passenger side? if sow when the snow plow hit the frunt it cosed the pasinger door to get jamed on it self wich will not allow the door to open. look and see if the passenger side lines mach up with the body and the door. damege to the front can move all the way to the back of a car you need to take the car to a body shop and have a qout done for you
there sould be one or two bolts one in the door handle area and another by the arm rest portion of the door then its held on by body clips which you can just pull out with a little force
This is a common fault on the series 3 usually down to the General Module 5 or GMV relays breaking down. Item is situated behind glove box reasonably easy to replace. Cost from BMW about £240.00 Can be found through breakers about £60.00. Keys will have to be recoded. See www.bmwgm5.com for more info.
