1994 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1L V6 DOHC Vehicle cannot be shifted into Park or First Gear. What could be the diagnosis?

If you can't move the shifter into PARK OR FIRST GEAR manually I would say you need to adjust the cable shifter. Try to move the shifter while someone looks at the transmissions cable underhood and see if the cable move normally and not out of the adjustment lock.
1- At the transmission end cable unhooks the cable from the transmission.
2- Try to move the transmission's selector manually from Park to
D1.
3- If you cannot move the selector then your problem is inside the transmissions.
4- If you can move normally the selector then you have to adjust the cable.

Hoe to replace

the shifter cable (not TV kick down)
you detact it from the shifter (removed)
the detach it from the tranny.
it has 2 ends, detach them.
of never done a cable change on anything or on A/T
the RTM read the manual, read the FSM (Suz)
or loging to alldata.com and read that there.
the odd thing, ive never seen one fail, way do you think its bad, collision damage?
here is a quote from the pull tranny page, it might help
but most books (cept a real FSM)
do not cover , the minor steps , they are basics

Gear shift will not move out of park

Try checking your Transmission Range Sensor (this is also called the NSS or Neutral Safety Switch). If you haven't had any problems with the transmission before, this would be a good place to look. You can also check for a broken shifter cable. Does the gear indicator move but the transmission not shift? If the lever moves but it doesn't shift the transmission, you're probably looking at a broken shifter cable.
