SOURCE: HI , my Ford Taurus is 1996 model

As far as compressor clutch slipping, that could indicate that your system needs a freon recharge.
As far as Code 1405 is concerned, the code guide i checked states it is an EGR valve problem having to do with the upstream pressure hose. Check hose for tight connections and there are no kinks in hose and check condition of hose and replace if necessary.

On alot of cars you must erase the code after repairs, the code is pending in the memory and can still run bad till cleared.try clearing the code

Sounds Like your o/2 is bad, are you burning e-8, try adding some injector cleaner/seafoam, and put a tank of preimu gas in then reset the code.

Erg flow insufficient

  • The DPFE (differential pressure feedback EGR) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
  • There is a blockage in the EGR (tube), most likely carbon buildup
  • The EGR valve is faulty
  • The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum
It is quite common for people to just replace the EGR valve only to have the OBD code return. The EGR valve is not always the culprit.
  • Use a vacuum pump and pull the EGR valve open while monitoring engine RPM's & DPFE voltage. There should be a noticable difference in RPM's with the EGR open
  • Clean out the EGR valve and/or tubing to remove deposits
  • Check the voltage at the DPFE, compare to specified values (refer to a repair manual for your specific model)
  • Replace the DPFE sensor (with a good quality / OEM one)
  • Replace the EGR valve
The EGR valve is located in the engine compartment. Its should look this

Have a 1995 ford contour and took it to pepboys and they got multiple codes. One of the codes came up twice code 332 says egr valve not opening could this cause all the other codes? My husband has checked...

DTC P0332 is for a knock sensor, not egr valve. That's not to say one of the multiple codes you've mentioned wasn't for the egr valve.

What are some of the characteristics the vehicle is showing. By the way, what is the vehicle? In one place it says 1995 contour, in another it says 1995 explorer.

WHY CAN'T I GET ANY CODES ON MY 1994 3.4 CAMARO USING A OBD1 CODE SCANNER? USING AN ACTRON CP9001 SCANNER. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON BUT DOES NOT FLASH. SCANNER WORKS FINE ON MY 1993 GMC SIERRA 4X4.

The only way those type of scanners will give you a code is if it is a hard code. When a check engine light is on, but doen's flash it is usually referring to an emission problem. A flashing light refers to misfire. Spark plugs, wire, etc. A snap on scanner or Genesis Scanner is able to look at perimeters inside the system which is a better approach when you don't have a hard code. Sometimes after the code is on long enough it will become a hard code and the type of scanner that you have will pull it. The thing that often happens is the EGR isn't circulating properly and you get an intermediate light and don't get a hard code for a while which leaves you in the dark. You might take your vehicle to a local service shop which uses a better scanner and they can look at what is going on and solve that problem.

I need to replace my DPFE sensor, where is it located?

How to replace it

A DPFE (delta pressure feedback EGR) sensor on a Ford is designed to sense the amount of EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) flow. The EGR is used to introduce burnt exhaust gases back into the engine through the intake manifold only at cruising speeds. This introduction of exhaust gases helps prevent pre-ignition by cooling the combustion temperatures, and it helps reduce emissions. A bad sensor will cause a stumble or rough engine at part throttle around 40 mph. And when the sensor begins to fail, the "Check engine" light will come on and show a code of "P0401," meaning that EGR flow is insufficient.
  1. Remove the rubber hoses from the bottom of the DPFE sensor. The sensor is located on the firewall to the rear of the EGR valve. It is a black square box with an electrical connector plugged into the front. When the hoses are removed, inspect them for contamination. Oftentimes, the larger hose will filled with a white-looking powder caused from moisture. Use a small screwdriver or pick and break it loose and shake the powder out. If the hoses are too contaminated, remove them and clean them out.
  2. Step 2 Remove the electrical connector from the sensor. Remove the two screws holding the sensor to the firewall.
  3. Step 3 Bolt the new sensor to the firewall. Install the rubber hoses on the bottom of the sensor, and plug in the electrical connector.
  4. Step 4 Clear the codes to reset the "Check engine" light. Plug the code scanner in to the OBD connector, which is located under the driver's side dash. Turn the ignition key to the On position without starting the engine---just make sure that the lights on the instrument panel are on. The code scanner has a button labeled "Erase." Push this button and the scanner will display "Wait." When the scanner shows "Codes cleared," the check engine light should go out on the instrument panel. If the light did not go off, turn the ignition key off for a few seconds and start the car. The light should be off at this point.

EGR EVP Sensor

Right on top of the EGR, (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), valve, which is on top of the intake.

Looks like this,
http://fordfuelinjection.com/index.php?p=35

Now, let's talk. The guy's and gal's at the auto parts stores, are just there to sell auto parts, not diagnose cars, pickup trucks, and so on. Nice that they try to help, but an ODB II scanner just shows generic information.

What I'm stating by that, is that you could buy that expensive part, and this may not cure your problem, and/or you could damage your computer if the procedure isn't done correctly.

The P1400 code states,
1.DPF EGR signal circuit shorted to ground
2.DPF EGR signal VREF circuit open
3.DPF EGR sensor is damaged or has failed
4.PCM has failed (Powertrain Control Module)
5.TSB 4-3-1 contains repair information for this trouble code

You need a scanner that is the NGR, (New Generation Star), or has the capability to read
Ford Enhanced Data.

This connects to the PCM in the harness. (It's located on top of the engine) If the procedure isn't done right, you can "Let the smoke out", of the PCM.
You also have to reset the computer to clear the error code.

I know shop time is expensive, but sometimes it leads to less expense in the long run.
