Make sure floor mat is not compromising accelerator pedal operation. Check throttle cable for sticking and binding.... lube if necessary. Check throttle linkage at intake for sticking/binding and repair as necessary
Wild guess the Throttle cable is frayed and "sticking" in it's enclosure. or if you are lucky it needs lubrication. Or possible the throttle mechanism itself needs some attention. Live in a "salt" area? Corrosion causes a lot of bad "behavior".
WD 40 all over what you can see inside then from the under side as well. probably has build up on it ,just needs cleaned and loosend up.i had one stick on me one time because of it .
Replace the accelerator cable since it is worn and sticking. It will loosen up as you say altough someday it will jamb up while your driving it which will be a dissater in most cases
If the engine is surgeing without accelerator sticking then you have an idle air solenoid valve sticking. Sometimes they can be cleaned and put back in and work fine and then sometimes need replaced. Clean with carburator cleaner. Be careful when removing it from engine intake to not damage it's seal.
