You surely do. You should invest in a manual. Timing is a critical part of any engine. The manual tells you to move every thing from the front of the vehicle. I just remove enough to let the radiator and bumper hang off the lower hoses. This is enough room to accomplish what you need to do. I suggest strongly that you replace all the parts of the timing. You only want to do this once.

I have a2004 passat the check oil light stays on and the level is ok.also what kind of milage do you change the cam belt

If the oil light stays on, there's a lack of oil pressure somewhere, If you haven't changed the oil and filter for a year, I'd try that first.

For cam belt changes, its best to check a drivers manual. You'd need a dealer or the VW website for that.

Here's a URL for a review site for your car, should have some interesting info:-

http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/volkswagen/passat-2001/

Finally the cam belt, first make sure it is a belt and not a chain, if its a chain, no need to worry. If its a belt, the rule of thumb is every 40,000 miles.

HOW TO REMOVE THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY ON A 2001

The front grill and bumper has to be removed to reveal the 2 lower screws holding each lamp assembly. Removal of the hood latch is simple, just don't over do when you spread the plastic link cause it would break sometime. Do not loose the pivot pin and the locking clip of the plastic link to the latch handle. The front grill needs to be poke with a flathead screw driver on top to release it. Hopes this helps cause it really is just simple common sense to figure out.

VW SHARAN 02. i need to remove the headlights so i can straighten the cap covering the bulb and also the light tilter is not working ( the switch does not seem to tilt the beams when i turn the dial, this...

  1. In order to remove the headlights, you need to remove the front bumper cover.
  2. Place the front of the car on jack stands.
  3. You will need to remove the screws on each side in the fender wells on the back side that screw into the bumper. these are torx screw head type.
  4. On the underside of the car there are larger torx type screws that attach the bumper cover to the body. They need to be removed.
  5. You will need to remove the grill that has the VW symbol on it. Under the grill there is more torx type screws to remove. Inorder to remove the grill you need to get the hood release rod off as well.
  6. With the bumper cover removed, there are four torx type screws holding the headlight in place. Once removed you can unplug them and the head light is off.

I have a 2001 Vw Beetle. The front bumper grille

Your best bet is to call & speak directly to a VW parts dept & ask them. U can order whatever parts u need online & probably save $ but call & find out what parts u really need. If its needs a certain paint color only the dealer will be able to order the original parts or u may have to have it painted to your want. Good Luck

How do you take bumper of vw passat 2003 to replace radiator

Tools Required
--------------------------------
T25 Torx Screwdriver
Phillips Head Screwdriver (if equipped with fog lights)
Small Flathead screwdriver
Wide Flathead Screwdriver

Bumper Removal
--------------------------------

1. Jack the car up on both sides and remove the front wheels. Use Jackstands and please observe all safety procedures. I'm sure it's possible to do this by turning the wheels to each side as you work in the wheel wells, but this was easiest for me to do.

2. Remove the hood release lever.
Pry out the plastic guide on the front of the grill, and looking directly down on the hood release lever attachment point, you'll see a metal clip. Using your small screwdriver, flip that clip up so it's off of the plastic lever and place your wide screwdriver in the Y of the plastic, turn the large screwdriver to spread the Y off the pins that it is holding on to. This can be VERY frustrating, so take your time. If you need to remove the latch cover in frustration, it's a $6 part from Liberty (experience)

3. Remove the front grill.
Just a T25 torx screw on each side and clips underneath, be careful not to break the clips as you pull it off. If you have an aftermarket grill you might have to pull through or cut off your double-sided tape

4. Remove the 3 lower grills (they just pop out, the middle one is a little tricky, just take your time and make sure all the plastic clips release)

5. Remove fog lights (if equipped) 3 screws each and disconnect

5. Remove the 4 T25 screws from the top of the bumper (under where the grill just sat)

6. Remove 4 T25 Screws from each wheel well, one is pointed straight up, you'll have to feel under the wheel well where the bumper meets the fender to find it.

7. Climb under the car and remove the 3 flat head screws (they just twist out)

8. With your helper, pull the bumper straight towards you from each side, and remove the connections from the side markers. The bumper should now be free.

Installation is basically the reverse of removal HOWEVER, there are tabs on each side of the car that line up with tabs on the bumper, be absolutely sure that these line up, they will center the bumper for you and hold it on while you screw it in.

Removing Bumper strip
-----------------------------------

1. Looking at the back of the bumper that you just removed, find the 4 tabs and 4 hooks holding the strip on. The hooks are down by the side marker holes, and the tabs are on the front of the bumper.

2. You'll see a black pin holding one of the hooks in place, if you push with a small screwdriver on the bottom of this pin, you'll see another, smaller pin come up, pull this pin out as far as you can and the large pin will pop right out.

3. With your screwdriver, carefully pry back the tabs and pull on the strip from the front of the bumper, releasing it in sections.

4. After all the tabs are removed, pull the strip away from the bumper (as if you were pulling it from off from the front of the car, and it should come right off)

I hope help you woth this. Good luck (remember rated this help).
