Nissan xtrail . same name used 2004 -2015 . what year model
when was it last serviced
if it has a duel clutch fitted .. start there ...they fail
any leaks in the gearbox or transfer case

if it is an automatic coult be a fulty TCU computer contoller most likely a soleniod fault and engine check light might be on ... pan off ... easy fix
a manual gearbox. the clutch system is hydrualic ... could be air in the system
bad news .is you can bleed it ... but if its leaking . the slave cylinder is internal close to the clutch ..to fix means gearbox out
