Sounds like the lock mechanism is stuck on the locked position. Since you didn't specify make and model this is a best guess. Make sure the lock is in the unlock position and try manipulating the rod connected to the outside handle (since child lock is on the inside handle won't work)
Sounds like the outside latch is either unhooked or broken. Take the inside of the door off and reach in behind and feel. have another hand lifting the outside door handle.
you probably pulled the rod off of the handle lever. once you get into the truck. take off your inner door panel and re connect those rods. there should be 3 screws on the bottom of the inner door panel. remove those and then lift the panel up and out.
Try a slim jim first, down the side of the window. Or AAA or locksmith. If no luck, remove the seat first. Find the screws and bolts around the door handle and arm rest. Most Ford's have screws around the outer side of the panel. I don't believe your's does. The panel lifts or pops off. Once the panel is off, you can reach down and open the door. Just a note. I have done some to where the panel came out in pieces.
Sound like what you need, is door hing pins, they go on the hinges, remove hing pine and brass bushing, install new ones, you will need a jack or some thing to hold the door up while you replace the bushing's and pin's.
your handle is broke you need a new one you put that in by talking off the in side of the door. You might be able to get one of them diagrams from auto zone or advansed auto
hi jim, try lifting up on the driver's outside door handle slowly while turning the key in the unlock position. The lock cylinder design has a cam on it that usually will catch while lifting the handle. if you have no luck on the driver's side, try the same thing on the passenger's side. be patient, it make take a few tries before the door unlocks.
I slammed the door shut one time and the door wood not open at all. I had to take the inside door handle off and found that the cables simply came off of their post (inside the door) on the outside part of the door handle. More than likely only one cable has come off its post on your van. I hope this helps!
Some linkage maybe broken on the door handle. Door panel removal instructions are availablel on line www.carstereohelp.com/strford.htm but determining the problem will have to be found on your own.
