Either your linkage is not properly adjusted or the shift fork is a bit worn inside the transfer case. I have a bit of wear on my own and shift into low range while rolling with no load, between 5&20mph and it works fine except that I need to anticipate needing it before hand. One important rule...If it grinds, don't force it into gear. That will cause damage.
Also, if you just got it, change the oil in there...you have no idea when it was last serviced.

SOURCE: jeep wont shift right

No, it is for the speedometer only. The cable that runs to the throttle from the transmission needs adjusted.

SOURCE: Transfer Case leaks

can't help with leak...you didn't say what is leaking...change fluid by removing two one inch flat bolts at back of case, drivers side bottom is drain, upper is fill (remove fill first...if frozen you can't re-fill it.)

Check the Trans fluid level with it running and at operating temperature. Jeep NAG1 transmissions are known to have the input electric seal leak trans fluid. Not an exspensive fix add Mopar ATF4 and then relace the guild seal.

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 292000 miles. Runs but will not drive in any gear. Selector will go into hear but it wont move. It can be pushed while in neutral. Was told transfer case was bad but even...

Could be either, a transmission problem or transfer case problem.
Someone will probably have to remove the transfer case to find out.
The torque converter, pump, valve body, or various parts in the transmission could have failed. The transfer case could be stuck between 2wd and 4wd or could have a broken gear.

When out of 4 wheel drive the left and right rear end makes a shattering sound. while the verhicle is not running i can rotate the wheels left and right on the rear i don't feel any resistance or hear...

its possible that the problem could be in the transfeer case. you didnt state which 4x4 unit is in the jeep.... there were 3 types, one was all wheel drive full time with a low gear selector, the 2nd was a part time 4x4 manual shift with a low range selector and the 3rd was a pushbutton on demand 4x4 unit. if your jeep is a all wheel drive unit and you are having these problems its defititely something for a transmission shop to look at due to how everything works. if you have the manual select, are you following the proper shifting procedure for the transfer case (found in the owners manual and possibly also on the inside of the driver sun visor). as for the pushbutton if you are not having any electrical issues( no lights on the selector switch) it could be the the transfer case itself. if you are sure you are performing mode changes (2wd to 4wd or 4wd to 2wd) properly its probably time for a shop to take a look at it.

How to shift into 4 LO in 2004 jeep grand cherokee

The correct procedure should be described in detail in your owner/operation manual.
For a 2004, 90 % sure that if it's a quadra trac you have to immobilize the vehicule, put your transmission shifter to neutral keeping foot on the brake obviously, engage the low on transfer case pulling the transfer case shifter, engage the transmission to drive
If it's a select track, normally you have to keep the vehicule moving very slowly (2 mph), move the transmission shifter to neutral, push the transfer case shifter to the right and pull it firmly. Once transfer case engaged, put back the transmission shifter to drive.
It could take few seconds to engage and disengage depending on the temperature and road condition. Do not try it on dry surface (preferable on mud, snow and wet surface). Drive at low speed because you will feel that it's very low geared.
By the way, follow the reverse process to reestablish normal mode

Hope it will help

MY 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO JUST STOPED DRIVING

If engine sounds okay, (when you accelerate, it revs up, etc.) then could be a transmission problem. (assume this is an automatic?)

Check fluid level first, if okay, next suggestion would be to change fluid & filter.

When you select a gear, do you get anything, any slight jolt to the vehicle?

If nothing at all, also might check the transmission lever linkage.

Is this 4WD or 2WD? If 4WD, also need to check transfer case setting, make sure it is properly set.
