There are many freeze plugs in the block and heads of engines. Some may very well require the removal of the transmission, others may require removal of the entire engine. It is all a matter of where the freeze plug is located and the accessibility to it for replacement.

SOURCE: Check engine lite says the Throttle Postion Sensor is Bad

The TPS is usually located on the inlet manifold at the rear of the engine. If you look at where the accelerator cable connects to the throttle housing it should be there. It's held on by 2 torx or hex head screws & has a wiring block connector with 3 wires going in to it. This connector should simply pull off when you squeeze the clasp. You didnt say which engine you have but the TPS is similar across the range. You must make sure the ignition is off when unplugging it otherwise you will generate a fault code in the Engine Managment System. Once replaced switch the ignition on for 5 seconds & then switch off. This should position the sensor ready to start the engine.

SOURCE: 2001 kia rio fuel pump does not work

Are you positive its the fuel pump? Have you tried running the pump with the return line off to see if it pumps fuel? They don't always have to make a noise.

SOURCE: gear box oil filler plug - kia rio 2004

you have to take off the speedometer cable/wiring harness from the top of the trans and fill it from there....one 10mm bolt...very awkward spot...it might be snug, so just take a flat head screwdriver from underneath to tap it loose...

2001 Kia rio automatic but it sounds like a standard, like I need to shift gears. Transmission ????

If it doesnt shift at proper speeds when its driving, then yes, the transmission. Make sure the fluid is full when engine at operating temp., idle. in park. If it's full, and no obvious shifter linkage problems, then you need to have it looked at by a transmission shop.

My 2001 Kia Rio idles rough and won't go over 2000 rpms. I can only get to about 20 km/h. I got the fuel filter and spark plugs replaced. Changed the mass air flow and the throttle position sensor. Still...

It may me the Transmission Modulator Value.
a small diaphram value that measures pressure and tells the transmission when to change gears. If the diaphram is leaking it never can measure the right pressure. its on the transmission housing. Just disconnect and screw it out.

Kia Rio died in traffic. Will not start.

Hello Kia Owner,
Regarding the shut down, when was the last time you changed the timing belt?? Did you know that the twin cam 1.5 lirte motor needs a new belt every 50,000 miles or 80,000 kms.
If the belt has failed it may still be in tact but with the cogs ripped off.
Your valves have collided with at least one piston but it is good you were only idling at the time.
The motor may be worth fixing. I just fixed mine myself. I had to lift the engine after removing the axles. I removed the old timing belt and removed and rebuilt the cylinder head(big job). Two exhaust valves were boken right off and lying inside one cylinder.
Most likely your timing belt failed as well.
