I have a 91 jetta 1.8 l and the steering weel is loose and we have tryd to change the ignition but now we ar stuck the steering wheel doesnt want to fit anymore what can i do

try turning your steering wheel from left to right while you gently try removing the key. if that doesnt work and your car is a automatic with the shifter in the center console there is a cable running to the transmission that sometimes becomes loose causing the car not to be fully into the park position.

Could be u just need to wiggle the steering wheel to unstick the steering wheel lock

First I hope you have fixed the loose steering wheel the brake lights run through the steering colum and, so does alot of other componets.It sounds like you might have a bad ignition switch or a bad ignition key switch.

make sure ur in park, idk if there is a button to push for the key to come out but if not, just keep wiggling the steering wheel and pulling the keys.

Does it just kill like you shut the key off ?
If so I would say you have a loose wire or shorting wire in the ignition , that when you turn the steering wheel to the right( the side the igniton tumbler is on) it is catching a wire or shorting.
Please let me know what you find.

is the steering weel locked in place

I know this is a little late, but I just encountered the same problem with a 2005.5 jetta tdi. Went to put key in ignition and encountered a white plastic tumbler(?) blocking the keyhole. Car was parked, tires were straight and steering wheel was locked. Tried moving wheel up, down, left and right and also tried applying a small amount of oil thinking something was just stuck. Did what I could and finally called VW roadside assistance. Local dealer took a look this afternoon and notified me that the ignition switch is faulty and they have to order a new one from Germany which will take 2 weeks to arrive. Plus side, the part and labor will be covered under CPO warranty, but of course, the warranty doesn't cover a rental car for the two weeks this one will be out of commission.

Sounds like the tilt screws are loose ,and will cause too much loose movement to linkage to engage ignition switcn.
