What were the codes? Charcoal canister, even filled with gas, won't turn the trac light on. You might want to find a different garage.

re: Issues with Charcoal canister, trac off and check engine light

Went back and re-pulled codes. p043e, p043f, p2401, p2402 and p2419. I want to thank you, Randy, for responding last week. Please help if ya can. EXPENSIVE, per dealership they're the ones that diagnosed it as the charcoal canister failure by overfilling the tank. Thanks in advance, you da man!!!

Seems the issue is the charcoal canister isn't big enough. If gas(liquid) gets in the canister it is because a check valve has failed in the tank. This would need determined first. If there is gas in it, I would look for a used tank and charcoal canister.

My 06 ridgeline runs fine until I remove the gas cap, when I put gas cap back on it won't start unless I pump the accelerated a lot

Damaged/clogged evap canister. You probably overfilled fuel tank one too many times and caused damage. Evap canister is kind of charcoal filled canister located on your fuel system vent. When tank is overfilled gasoline reaches evap canister and and makes charcoal to became hard like clay. Once that happens fuel tank looses its vent and fuel pump cannot pull fuel because vaccum created inside fuel tank.

Large amount of fumes in cab after overfilling Toyota Hiace. Need to locate charcoal canister

You will need a new one but I would run the fault codes first and it may be the purge valve or canister solenoid that is faulty cheaper to check than replace something that may not need replacing

tries to fill the tank and don't mount filler cap into gas tank. don't leave immediately the gas station but go after 5 minutes and see if the problem appear more than 2 miles.
deactivates the carbon filter before filling the tank completely
If the problem recurs with fuel cap without being mounted, IT IS NOT charcoal filter

Can't fill the gas tank, I had the check valve replaced in the gas line and it work once and now it's back to not letting me fill it. I unplugged it but would like it to work. Any ideas what it may be?

fuel vent Charcoal canister will make it difficult to fill the gas, this canister vents the gas tank and if you overfill the tank then it screws up the Charcoal canister and will need to be replaced, I just found an old canister from the used parts place and had my mechanic replace it, went directly to the gas station and presto no more problem filling gas. DO NOT overfill your tank after replacing canister!

1981 Toyota Hiace (18R) Charcoal canister leaking petrol.

This sounds overfilled to me. Liquid should not get to the canister, only vapors, look for exactly what separates and stops liquid fuel, somewhere along the vent line... Sometimes on top of fuel tank.

BUT, it sounds like you are seriously overfilling. Gas comes out of the ground cool, then heats up in your tank. Put much less fuel in gas tank.

Fuel no longer lubricates anything, so no issue with full time LPG, but starting is commonly an issue, and most designs start with gas and cross over automatically to LPG, after warmed up.

I overfilled my Jeep Grand Cherokee on my first fill up and now I smell gas every time I fill up. I now stop at the click. I am told it is probably my charcoal filter because I keep smelling gas and the...

The charcoal filter is used to filter fumes from the fuel tank. There is a vent line, that comes from your fuel tank to this filter. (Charcoal canister)

Now since the charcoal filter has been completely soaked with gasoline, it will no longer function as it should. Even with vapors from the fuel tank vent line, the canister only has a working 'life' of so far.
You will smell gasoline in strong amounts until it is replaced.

Can't comment whether it is safe or not. (In my thinking, you are driving around with a charcoal canister, that has a charcoal filter soaked with gasoline. I wouldn't use it this way, but that is just my thoughts)

When i turn off the car it smells a little like gas. 91 honda accord theres no leaks have checked everywhere

Check the evaporative charcoal canister. When working properly, it prevents gas vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. If the engine has been flooded, or gas tank overfilled, it's possible that the charcoal is saturated w/ gas. If this is the case, it should be replaced. Also check the hoses to and from the canister for cracking or damage, which for a 91 is quite possible.

Engine light after i overfill gaz tank 2004 4runner

The light didnt come one because you filled it =while it was running, its on because you overfilled it. You pushed gasoline passed the rollover valve, into the charcoal canister which is probably now saturated. It may push raw fuel into the intake, which will make the engine run rough. Chances are, you need a new charcoal canister, ORVR, corrugated hose, and Purge valve
