My car will not change gears or go to park until i turn car off

Car will not go from drive to park. car will not change gears when driving it.

SOURCE: car driving ok then sticking in gear switched car

check the gear oil cage of your car and confirm if its still there, you will find it under the engine of your car

SOURCE: my car is jerking while driving.

Have engine wiring harness checked as 1993-1995 MB's were forced by US to use biodegradanle insulation on its wires. If thats not it replace coils and do a tunes up.

You need to see a transmission shop but I suspect the transmission has a internal part failure

The park/neutral safety switch has two purposes,
1 not to let the engine start unless it is in park or neutral settings.
2 is when you manually switch gears, it tells the computer and the computer keeps the engine in check until you shift, then the computer compensates for that gear and so on.
I would check motor/ transmission mounts, drive shafts, Suspension bushings,struts, or steering linkage first.

changing gear wont hurt your car unless its thumping into gear, you should all ways put your foot brake on anyhow when changing into reverse or drive to stop this thumping but going into drive then reverse realy wont hurt it in any way

the shifter linkage has become loose or shifted and not aligning properly, truck will only start in park or neutral.
the linkage needs to be realigned and repaired. this should be done at a professional level. the alignment is critical, if it is near shift point it can pop from park to reverse, or change gear suddenly causing an accident or transmission damage.

Try to check the trans mission gears of your 1995 jeep grand cherokee.The shift fork and the clutch sleeve of the trans mission is locking to the other gears .And then also check the starter motor and its solenoid.if the starter motor solenoid is destroyed or worn out replace .
