How to remove the alternator in an 2001 Mazda Tribute 4 cylinder?

  • Anonymous Dec 16, 2016

the bolts do not come all the way out, there is a slit in the mounting bracket, that the bolts will slide through, the one closest to the fire wall needs to come out first, I had to pry because of the bushings, the forward most bolt has a slit halfway through the mounting bracket, be care full of the plastic intake manifold. this takes care of the bolts not coming out all the way. I used a mirror to see the slit and to see where to place my medium pry bar. For installation I pressed (a fraction of inch) the bushings on the new alternator, used a c clamp with socket. this allows for easy installation. hope this helps.

First, disconnect battery, than remove cables from starter (you may want to make mark so you don't get them mixed up when reinstalling,
Than Remove the two bolts holding starter.
Now you can pull out from top by exhaust manifold or if you have room to move through crossmember

SOURCE: I was told there are two oil pans on Mazda Tribute

There are two gaskets, one is between the lower pan and the upper pan, and the second is between the upper pan and the engine. You only need to replace the gasket that leaks. If both are leaking, replace them both. To find out where the leaks are, raise the car, get underneath, and look closely all around the oil pans to see where the oil is coming from. Use a flashlight if necessary. You should be able to trace any leaking oil upward to its source.

The oil pan gaskets are not necessarily the only sources of oil leaks. Check to see if any oil is coming from behind the timing cover, and look for oil coming from the valve cover gasket.

Solution to getting the timing chain correct

For the 2001 Mazda Tribute:
Unspecified 2.0L DOHC In-Line 4-Cylinder or 3.0L DOHC V6.

Click on the following Direct/Free Link. It has the Timing Belt Diagrams including some Instructional and Directional Diagrams you will need.
I strongly suggest you purchase a Haynes or Chilton Manual available at most auto parts stores for around $25-$30. You will need it for: in-depth procedural and directional information, including torque specifications for every bolt/nut that will need to be removed.
