Didnt specify vehicle but definitely overheated vehicle --lost all power did vehicle shut down or go into limp mode --does it start ,turn over no start ,or nothing --if nothing -check fuses and relays belts timing belt and try a jump start if still nothing could possible be seized engine --serpentine belt broke ===timing belt/chain broke
It's a 2009 Dodge Journey it runs fine now that the temperature outside is cooler. But it shut down like I literally was trying to give it gas and get out of the road power steering was so tight could barely move it then finally came to a stop. It wouldn't start back up but after it sit awhile it did
so restarted check cooling system fluid wise and electronically --temp sensors, fan relays, water pump etc ===check oil and transmission when overheating a vehicle the oil and transmission fluid break down and usually need changing got lucky also probably got check engine codes [you said lights going on ]have vehicle scanned most auto parts stores offer service for free may have a code for what caused the overheating problem
Thank you hopefully a cheap fix! I did check fluids when I got it back home and coolant was full transmission fluid oil all good. I didn't know if maybe a thermostat gone bad or maybe water pump
you may have pending codes they wont set off light and doesnt hurt to have the scan

There doesn't have to be smoke for it to overheat.
Hm would it run properly with no lights on afterwards
