This may be related to the antitheft system The system is known for turning off the starter and/or injectors when it fails. Normally when the injectors are turned off, the car will run for a second or two, and then stall. Is there a light on the dash that says SECURITY or a picture of a car with a lock through it? This is a common problem worth looking into. http://www.diy-gm-security.com/

If it still runs and drives. Leave it alone. Don't want to see it, put tape over the light. You want to fix it, you have to replace the BCM/security or IP. If it is the BCM/security you have to buy it new and have it programmed.

    Thank you for the info. It has recently begun leaving me waiting for the relearn sequence. The light had been on for a couple years and now started killing the fuel randomly on start cycles.

    You can't just put tape over it. SMH. It will eventually lock you out of being able to start the car completely.

most likely not a relay but a failed flasher can as the lights are on but not blinking

TAIL LIGHTS STAYING ON. 1998 JAGUAR XK8
All the lighting goes through the security module in the trunk. If both lamps are staying on them you probably need a new security module. If one light is staying on then you have cut the wire for that tail lamp coming out of the security module and jump the wire from the other tail lamp so both are powered on the one circuit.But first remove the lamp cluster, disconnect it and make sure you do have constant power going to the cluster. If so then first I would perform a hard reboot on the car. Disconnect both sides of the battery, wait for about 30 seconds and then join both of the DISCONNECTED BATTERY TERMINALS TOGETHER (this discharges any memory in the computers) Then reconnect the positive to the battery then the negative. Start the car, reset your clock and retest the lights. If you have the same issue then start with the wiring to the security module.

Starting for a second or two is quite possible that the passlock system is causing it. I've seen this happen before. There are a lot of videos on youtube about bypassing this system. Have a look. bypass GM anti theft YouTube

Maybe your door switch button has broken off. Sometimes I bump my dash light dimmer wheel (which also turns on my dome light) and it stays on in my 93 Chevy pickup

HOW TO TURN OFF THE SECURITY FEATURE
The security feature is built into the body control module, it can not be removed or shut down. If there is a problem in the system the security light will stay on steady or flash. If you are having a problem with the system have the codes checked and go from there.

Most likely. Usually what happens to mine, is the wires to the sensors get broken from stones hitting them. i splice them back together and they are good for a while. Or the sensors get dirty.

1995 suburban 2500, battery problems, everything shuts down
With a test light, check for power at the starter main cable, have your helper try the starter. If the light goes out, check the connections. Plus all the ground cables, not just the one on the battery.

98 suburban runs hot then cools after overheating light comes on. engine has less than 5000 miles, new water pump, radiator is just over a year old, and new thermostat. New engine ran about 50 degrees hotter than the old one. Had the radiator flushed and refilled professionally. Recently had to replace freeze plug on the side of the block. Now the motor heats up until the check gauges light comes on, then cools down within normal operating range. It only does this after it has cooled off for a few hours. After it cools down into normal range it sometimes fluctuates but never gets as hot as it does after it has reached its peak of hot temp the first time. No smell of antifreeze inside or outside of car. no visible leaks either. No white smoke or smoke of any other kind coming from tailpipe, no water coming out of it either. And no coolant is visible in the oil. I recently put bars copper stop leak in it thinking it had a small drip somewhere that wasn't visible. This hasn't seemed to stop the problem either. It doesn't seem to use coolant either. I am by far not a certified mechanic but I do know my way around an engine and can usually fix whatever is wrong with it but I am completely at a loss with this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is the only vehicle I have and is therefore my every day driver.
