I have a major screwed up issue, My friends car, a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 had check engine light on, codes were a upstream O2 sensor and a Crank Position sensor, I replaced both , cleared the codes and drove car around , all was good . The other day they went to add Freon to the a/c unit and the car stalled and cranks but will not start, and the turn signal indicator lights on the dash are on steady , even with the key off. all happened at time of stall . So I brought my scan tool home from work to check for codes and such , plugged it into the car , hit the key and it fired up and ran, kinda rough but it was running , while i was getting into the live data to see what was going on the wire on my scan tool got super hot , I pulled the cable out of the obd2 connector and the car stalled and cranks but wont start . I replaced the PCM with a used unit today and everything is the same . I am at a loss and getting frustrated . Please help if you can .
Please use "comments" not "testimonial" to make comments. That said you can't test the PCM, you must diagnose by process of elimination. I think you MAY have a bad one. 2000 Pontiac sunfire has an interesting issue; the wires corrode in the wiring harness. I'm not sure about just turn signals, it is usually multiple issues. Maybe your driving lights quit too? and maybe you windshield wipers? Start out by running a ground wire from the engine to the firewall; maybe attach (to experiment ) a ground wire to one of the mounting bolts on your windshield wiper motor. I'm guessing the ground is gone.
Check brake light switch (likely faulty). This issue may not be related to the engine issue. If not the brake switch then check wiring for possible short circuit.
The 1137 OBD2 code is typically an o2 sensor problem as you have indicated, first I would make sure your replacing the correct o2 sensor as there are two (upstream and downstream), although it is possible that a bad o2 sensor could keep your engines fuel injection system from delivering the fuel to your engine, in my experience having a bad sensor typically results in a check engine light and running with a less than optimum fuel air mixture, it does not typically keep your vehicle from starting. If your still getting the 1137 error code after replace the o2 sensor and checking its connecting wires I would start looking for a bigger issue.
this usually indicates an emission problem that could cause motor or catalytic damage.you need to go to the shop and have code pulled from the computer to start diagnosing, the cat could be plugged up as you say when you try to accelerate the car won`t move normally, the gas smell indicates the motor is not burning fuel as designed and the white smoke indicates a possible coolant leak into the combustion chamber and being burnt.this car needs to be checked out at a shop before major damage occurs if it hasn`t already happened.
Do you see a light anywhere on the dash that says SECURITY? This means that the anti theft system is shutting down your injectors. Very common on GM vehicles. If so, check out this link.
You will have to get the codes for both of these modules. Then you can post back and I can help you and explain what they mean.Auto Zone will check the service engine soon light but I don`t know if they can check the theft light. They won`t charge you.
ok, its time for a radiator flush. there is major sludge in the internals of this radiator. Make sure the thermostat is in the correct position as well. I've seen many cars come into my shop with the thermostatinsertedbackwards.
